The Stream Life: Week 8
The Stream Life is at it again. After suggesting 2 QB 1’s, a top TE1, the number 1 AND number 3 team defense and special teams, and 2 kickers tied for 3rd in scoring last week it’s time to take a victory lap before we see what’s in store for week 8!
QB: Baker Mayfield: Browns at Steelers
Baker Mayfield gets his first crack at the Steelers defense in his young career. The Steelers have allowed multiple touchdown passes to opposing quarterbacks in all but 2 of their games. In 4 games as a starting QB, Mayfield has thrown 2 touchdown passes in half his starts.
QB: Derek Carr: Raiders vs Colts
Now The Stream Life knows this suggestion is crazy but that’s what we do, we take chances. Derek Carr has only thrown multiple touchdowns once and that was against the Cleveland Browns way back in week 4. The Colts defense has been above average against QB’S this year. The Raiders are coming off their BYE week and traded away Amari Cooper. With Marshawn Lynch going down due to injury the Raiders will turn to Doug Martin to handle the early-down rushing duties. If and when this game gets out of hand for Oakland they will have to throw the ball to keep up with Andrew Luck and the Colts. Earlier in the week Carr tweeted out his passion on being a Raider. This is a perfect prove it type game for Carr and the Raiders.
TE: Vance McDonald: Steelers vs Browns
The Browns just gave up over 100 yards to Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight ends. Jesse James had 3 catches for 60 yards verse the Browns in week 1. McDonald is the more athletic tight end between the two and the Browns have allowed 12.5 points a game to tight ends in PPR formats. Outside of Jared Cook, the Browns haven’t allowed a tight end to score a touchdown this season. The Stream Life projects a 5 catch 70 yard performance from McDonald this week.
TE: C.J. Uzomah: Bengals vs Buccaneers
Here is a frequent Stream Lifer since the injury to Tyler Eifert. With the Buccaneers losing two defensive players due to injury last week against the Browns that should create more opportunity for mismatches with Uzomah. Considering the Buccaneers are the worst team in the NFL against tight ends this makes for a perfect Stream Life candidate. Tamp Bay has given up a receiving touchdown to opposing tight ends in 4 straight games.
D/ST: 49ers at Cardinals
Here it is! The statistic The Stream Life found a few weeks ago will be put to the test this week. For you new readers, where have been?! Kidding aside, thanks for checking out The Stream Life. Now let’s get the updated numbers on my statistic. Streaming the team defense the week AFTER playing the Los Angeles Rams. Since week 2 here are the point differentials for fantasy defenses AFTER the Rams game: 12, 11, 24, 26, 34. Those numbers give you an average increase of 21.4 fantasy points from the Rams game to their next opponent. That would project the 49ers to score around 22 fantasy points this week. While that might seem unlikely and we advise proceeding with caution, they do face the lowly Cardinals this week. The last time these two teams played, week 5, the 49ers scored 5 fantasy points. The 5 week stat starting the team defense the week after facing the Rams is truly put to the test this week.
D/ST: Patriots at Bills
The Stream Life loves picking on the Buffalo Bills offense. Here’s captain obvious checking in with this weeks no-brainer start of the week. The Patriots just gave up 31 points to the Chicago Bears and still scored 14 fantasy points. Now imagine what the Patriots can do against a Bills team that will be lucky to score two touchdowns in the game.
Kicker: Jake Elliot: Eagles at Jaguars
This game is in London and starts at 9:30 AM Eastern. The Stream Life is fading the Jacksonville Jaguars right now. Over the last 3 weeks, opposing kickers have all scored double-digit fantasy points against the Jaguars. Here comes Jake Elliot, who has at least 2 FG attempts since week 3 of the season.
Kicker: Dustin Hopkins: Redskins at Giants
The Washington Redskins now get their turn at the worst defense against kickers in fantasy football. Since week 3, kickers have scored double-digit fantasy points against the New York Giants. During that span only once has an opposing team attempted 2 or fewer FG’S against the Giants. The Stream Life loves starting players with sexy match-ups and this certainly qualifies as one of those.
As always, thanks for reading and good luck this week unless you’re playing against me – in 1 of my 12 leagues. Twitter is @bferrer
