The Stream Life: Week 16
Welcome to the week that should be your fantasy football championship game. As we enter week 16, can you believe only 2 QB’S throw for over 300 yards?! (Goff & Rivers). Yet, there were 10 RB’S to rush for over 100 yards last week. December, cold, old-school football at its finest. Let’s get straight to your week 16 Stream Life candidates that can help you win a fantasy football championship!
QB: Baker Mayfield: Browns vs Bengals
It’s no secret how much more successful the Cleveland Browns have been without Hue Jackson. Baker Mayfield’s highest scoring fantasy game came in week 12 at the Cincinnati Bengals. Mayfield threw for 258 yards and a career-high 4 TD’S! The Bengals defense has only allowed 1 passing TD per game since week 12. That doesn’t scare The Stream Life. The Browns haven’t officially been eliminated from the playoffs yet and will want to take it to Hue Jackson again. This game is in Cleveland and with it being December, it’s worth keeping an eye on the weather. As long as the wind isn’t too much of a factor than “Baker the TD maker” might have a 3 total TD game in him. That’s right, Mayfield could wake up feeling dangerous and score his 1st career rushing TD!
QB: Sam Darnold: Jets vs Packers
Here’s another great play for The Stream Life. We like QB’S who are proving themselves and going against teams eliminated from the playoffs plus have nothing to play for. Sam Darnold is coming off his highest scoring fantasy week of the season, thanks to his 35 rushing yards. Darnold threw 2 TD passes against a Houston Texans defense that has only allowed 2 TD passes 1 other time since week 4! In a must-win game, the Green Bay Packers just allowed Mitchell Trubisky to throw 2 TD passes. There’s plenty of opportunities here for Darnold to have a solid fantasy game.
TE: Chris Herndon: Jets vs Packers
As you can tell from the above comments, The Stream Life is searching for guys who are going against teams that were just eliminated from the playoffs or streaming guys still in playoff contention. Chris Herndon faces a Green Bay Packers team that is stingy against TE’S. The Packers have only allowed 2 receiving TD’S to opposing TE’S all year, but 1 was last week against the Chicago Bears. The Stream Life is expecting the Packers to be thinking about vacation and not this road match-up in New York. Herndon is coming off his best game in 3 weeks with 3 receptions for 53 yards. We all know the TE position is an absolute mess so proceed with caution here.
TE: Ben Watson: Saints vs Steelers
This is a match-up of 2 teams needing a victory and still have everything to play for. Ben Watson hasn’t been very effective for the New Orleans Saints, but the Pittsburgh Steelers have been vulnerable against TE’S. Don’t let the Steelers shutting Rob Gronkowski down last week scare you, Gronkowski looks old and slow. Now you’re thinking, Ben Watson is old and slow. While that’s accurate, The Stream Life could see the Steelers doubling Michael Thomas and focusing on Alvin Kamara to help slow down this potent offense. If that’s the case, the middle of the field could be open for Watson. We don’t expect a huge game, but Watson will always have a small chance of catching a TD in this offense. This could be a 3 reception for 35 yards type of game and you hold your breath for a TD.
TEAM D/ST: Titans vs Redskins
The Stream Life loves this play. Sure, the Washington Redskins still have something to play for, but the Tennessee Titans are in better condition to make a playoff push. Everyone knows the Redskins are on their 4th string QB, Josh Johnson and as long as he can be contained on the ground the Titans D/ST could be in for a nice game. Over their last 2 games, the Titans have allowed only 7 points and collected 7 sacks. That was against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Giants. So it’s safe to say the Redskins offense is probably in between the Jags and Giants offense. The Redskins have given up 8 sacks over the last 2 weeks. Start the Titans D/ST with confidence this week.
TEAM D/ST: Browns vs Bengals
The Cleveland Browns D/ST could be a sneaky good option against the Cincinnati Bengals this week. The Browns have 3 interceptions in their last 2 games. The lowly Oakland Raiders were able to intercept Jeff Driskel once last week and they even sacked the QB once! Anyone that’s a Raiders fan or has been following the NFL knows how bad the Raiders pass rush has been this season. Prior to last week, the Bengals have given up 7 sacks over their previous 2 games. The Browns D/ST isn’t as good of an option as the Titans, but it’s still worth considering.
Kicker: Jason Sanders: Dolphins vs Jaguars
The Stream Life believes the Jacksonville Jaguars have given up. The defense and special teams for the Jaguars play hard when in Jacksonville, but with this game being in Miami we expect things to be different. The Dolphins offense isn’t high-powered enough to produce a whole lot of TD’S so we’re forecasting some drives stalling to result in FG attempts. This Stream option might be more of a value play in daily leagues or multiple kicker leagues. Not sure if that’s a thing, but if so, that’s AWESOME! This is a pure gut suggestion as there are not too many stats that support starting Jason Sanders.
Kicker: Ryan Succop: Titans vs Redskins
We’re back to fading the Washington Redskins with this Stream Life candidate. Ryan Succop has not attempted more than 2 FG’S in a game since week 7. He has made at least 2 XPs since week 12. The Redskins have allowed at least 2 FGA’S in 3 straight games. Vegas has this total set in the high 30’s. Partly because the Redskins offense is so depleted and while that’s true, this could have the makings of a 3 FGA effort out of Succop. The Stream Life has been very spotty with kickers this year so buyer beware.
Thanks for checking out The Stream Life this week. As always, best of luck to everyone in fantasy unless you’re going against me. Twitter @ bferrer
