Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week Thirteen
What a holiday weekend! I won some DFS cash AND got to hang out with family and friends. Truly blessed. This weeks millionaire maker slate is looking pretty easy to project. Start with a couple of studs at running back, add a mid tier RB in the flex, save money at TE and defense and then use the rest on the wide receiver positions. Cash game lineups should be the least resistant path to money this week. Plenty of value ceiling plays for those tournaments too. Should be a fun one, let’s get it!
As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it!
Touchdowns: Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, Matt Breida, Josh Adams, D.J. Moore, Eric Ebron
First Downs: Odell Beckham Jr., George Kittle, Cameron Brate, Buffalo D
Punts: David Johnson, Chris Hogan, Colts D, Niners D
Cam Newton: $6,600 vs. Tampa Bay (Road)
Normally I don’t pay up at QB but Newton is against the Tampa Bay defense and offers the sturdiest floor of any Qb in the league. He’s the most expensive Qb on the slate and I’m perfectly fine playing him in both cash and tournaments. We can save money elsewhere!
Andrew Luck: $5,800 vs. Jacksonville (Road)
Eight straight games with three or more touchdown passes and just $5,800 against an imploding Jags defense (team)? Sign. Me. Up. No Fournette and a new starting Qb should give Luck plenty of possessions to fill the stat sheet for you. Great tournament play.
Kirk Cousins: $5,500 vs. New England (Road)
Coming off of his best game of the year, Cousins should be dropping back forty plus times as the Vikes try and keep up with the Patriots on the road. The Pats defense is vulnerable and I think Cousins can throw for 300 yards and at least a couple of scores.
Aaron Jones: $6,700 vs. Arizona (Home)
It’s both Aaron Rodgers AND Aaron Jones birthdays on Sunday so we have a full on Aaron Bday narrative in play! So rare! Jones has been the do it all back for the Packers over the last month and the Cardinals continue to hemorrhage points to running back so I’m all in. Big ole Bday gift from Mr. Jones for you this week!
Phillip Lindsay: $5,400 vs. Cincinnati (Road)
Another team that stinks out load on defense are the Bengals. Lindsay has been one of the best stories of the fantasy season. I have no idea how he’s still this cheap in week thirteen. Take advantage!
Lesean McCoy: $4,900 vs. Miami (Road)
Last week was some tough sledding against the Jags run defense but McCoy touched the ball seventeen times. The Dolphins are near the bottom of the league in points against the running back position in 2018 so if McCoy sees the same volume, I’m betting he goes for 100 yards and a score. A steal at this price.
Davante Adams: $7,900 vs. Arizona (Home)
A lot of sharps will probably pivot off of Adams as he’s likely to draw Patrick Peterson in coverage. I ain’t scared! He’s the only consistent weapon in the passing game and has performed well against other top rated corners this year. Love him in tournaments. Rodgers, Adams and Jones stacks look juicy this week.
T.Y. Hilton: $6,000 vs. Jacksonville (Road)
Jalen Ramsey is a bit banged up at the moment but is trending to play. The Colts throw the ball over forty times a game and Hilton should see at least eight to nine targets with the potential to bust a big play. Love the price, love the upside and love him as a tournament play.
Curtis Samuel: $3,900 vs. Tampa Bay (Road)
Devin Funchess missed practice on Thursday but guess what? So did Samuel! If Samuel is active and Funchess is out again this is a dream match up for the second year receiver. He’s the PERFECT low cost tournament play. Keep your eyes glued to the injury reports and the inactive list that will post at 11:30 a.m.
Cameron Brate: $3,700 vs Carolina (Home)
He hit last week and he will again this week. This game has a point total of almost sixty and the Panthers are in the bottom five for points allowed to the tight end position. Jameis is making Cameron Brate again.
Kyle Rudolph: $3,600 vs New England (Road)
Rudolph finally showed some life and posted a seven catch game last week against the Packers. The Patriots linebackers are notoriously slow and I don’t trust Patrick Chung in coverage. Ride the redzone reindeer to all the monies this week.
Matt Lacosse: $2,500 vs. Cincinnati (Home)
Last man standing! I like Lacosse against a Bengals defense that I said earlier, STINKS!
Indianapolis: $2,600 vs. Jacksonville (Road)
No Fournette and Cody Kessler is the new starter. You do the math.
Kansas City: $2,500 vs. Oakland (Road)
Last I checked the Chiefs were scoring defensive TD’s against the Rams and the Raiders are not good.
New England: $2,400 vs. Minnesota (Home)
The YOLO call of the week! Cousins is prone to turnovers, especially fumbling, and the Pats play much better at home. Call it a hunch. For this price I’ll have them sprinkled in my lineups here and there.
