Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week Seventeen
Another season has come to pass and I want to say thank you for joining me on this wild ride that is Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks! We’ve had some ups and downs but I feel overall I’ve put together a really solid season. I’ve made money almost every week this season and continue to try and get better for you, the reader. I’m really looking forward to what 2019 is going to bring. Make sure to check me out on the Trophy Time and Dynasty Happy Hour podcasts this off season and shoot me a follow on twitter @Dafantasyfather. See you next year!
As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it!
Touchdowns: Baker Mayfield, Nick Foles, Alvin Kamara, Davante Adams, Robby Anderson, David Njoku
First Downs: Josh Allen, Alshon Jeffrey, Bills D
Punts: John Kelly, Kalen Ballage, Austin Hooper, Blake Jarwin, Cleveland D, Saints D
Sam Darnold: $5,200 vs. New England (Road)
Darnold has looked fantastic the last couple of weeks and now he faces a middle of the road Patriots defense where the Jets could play spoiler to the Patriots dreams of the number two seed. All sorts of motivation! I like a Darnold, Anderson, Mcguire, Herndon stack this week in tournaments. I have a feeling the Jets are going to make it uncomfortable for the reigning AFC champions.
Derek Carr: $5,100 vs. Kansas City (Road)
The last time the Raiders faced that Chiefs it ended up being a wild shootout and Carr passed for four touchdowns. It’s much harder to play on the road in Kansas City but Oakland shouldn’t see too much resistance on offense at least. The Chiefs defense is what I like to call “not good”.
Nick Mullens: $4,700 vs. L.A. Rams (Road)
The yolo play of the week! I don’t know what it is but this Mullens kid is kind of fun to watch and I like him at this price sprinkled into some tournament lineups. No Pettis, no Garcon, no problem! Rumor has it George Kittle wants to set the single season receiving yardage record for tight ends. All the Mullens and Kittle!
Chris Carson: $6,500 vs. Arizona (Home)
We just saw what C.J. Anderson did to the Cardinals defense and Crason looked great last week. Pete Carroll has said he won’t rest his starters but if reports come out and say that he is I would pivot to Rashaad Penny in a cocaine heartbeat. He’s off the injury report and will be ready to rock if you need him.
Jamaal Williams: $6,000 vs. Detroit (Home)
A little recency bias here for sure but he received 95% of the teams running back snaps last week and I don’t see that changing in week 17 against the Lions. A great cash play as the floor should be safer that a twinkie being guarded by a heavy set gentleman.
Royce Freeman: $3,500 vs. L.A. Chargers (Home)
Phillip Lindsay’s season is over after suffering a severe wrist injury in week 16. Enter Freeman who was the hyped rookie coming into the season that got his job stolen when he wasn’t looking. Freeman should touch the ball a ton and show you why so many loved him during the draft process this year.
Julian Edelman: $7,600 vs. New York Jets (Home)
The Patriots win and they are the number two seed and clinch a bye so this game is very important. Edelman has been the model of consistency since returning in week five after his four game suspension. The Jets have been playing well and this game could turn into a high scoring affair. Edelman is the only pass catcher I want this week for the Pats.
Kenny Golladay: $6,600 vs. Green Bay (Road)
Volume, volume, volume. Golladay is the only show in town for the hapless Lions. I think he finishes 2018 on a high note and eclipses 100 yards and throws in a score for shits and giggles.
Tre’Quan Smith: $3,700 vs. Carolina (Home)
With the news that Teddy Bridgewater may get the start this week and that the Saints are likely going to rest their big name starters Tre’Quan is a tournament dart throw that could pay off huge as Bridgewater wants to impress so he gets paid as a free agent in the off season.
Jared Cook: $5,500 vs Kansas City (Road)
A lot of big name tight ends may see limited work this week as their teams have playoff seeds etc. wrapped up so enter Jared Cook, first of his name, destroyer of Chiefs, as a high volume tournament play!
Chris Herndon: $3,400 vs New England (Road)
Tight End University alum Herndon has had a surprising rookie year, to say the least. I think he grabs a score as the Jets try to play spoiler to the Patriots.
Mark Andrews: $3,100 vs. Cleveland (Home)
The Ravens win and they take the North! They are lacking playmakers in the passing game but Andrews has shown he can score from deep. The Browns defense is still wretched versus opposing TE’s so you could definitely do worse than Andrews this week.
New Orleans: $2,700 vs. Carolina (Home)
Third string QB starting for the Panthers you say? Even if the Saints rest some defensive starters I’m firing them up this week.
Philadelphia: $2,700 vs. Washington (Road)
Eagles are trying to get into the playoffs and have played some pretty good defense over the last couple of weeks. The Redskins lack playmakers so I like the Eagles to keep their score low and grab some sacks on their way to victory.
Minnesota: $2,500 vs. Chicago (Home)
A must win game for the Vikings, at home, against a Bears defense which has looked pretty anemic recently. Sound the horn, the Vikings are coming!
That wraps up Doug’s Draftkings player picks for 2018! If you have any questions please shoot us an email at email@example.com or feel free to send us a tweet @dafantasyfather or @TFFGurus. Good luck and let’s win some money!!!
