Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week Seven

I’m back! Totally refreshed and better than ever! Ok, that’s debatable but man do I feel good. A weeks worth of beautiful Las Vegas weather combined with some quality time with just the wife and I makes for a great combo. I want to thank Josh for covering for me last week and bringing you a great article in my absence. I only played one lineup last week and I put it together about a half hour before kick off and made an 800% profit! That was the most money I won while in Vegas all week!

As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it!

Touchdowns: Matt Ryan, Jameis Winston, Sam Darnold, Case Keenum, Austin Hooper, David Njoku, Texans D

First Downs: Julio Jones, Chris Godwin, Vance Mcdonald

Punts: Dalvin Cook, Marshawn Lynch, Bilal Powell, Amari Cooper, Cleveland D, Chicago D

Quarterback:

Cam Newton: $5,900 vs Philadelphia (Road)

Cam Newton has averaged 22 Draftkings points per game and all of a sudden finds himself under 6k this week. Curious pricing this week as it’s not like Philadelphia has been a world beater on defense or anything. A super safe floor makes Newton a must play in cash games and his upside makes him very playable in tournaments.

Baker Mayfield: $5,800 vs. Tampa Bay (Road)

Tampa is the leagues worst pass defense and even though they fired their DC this week I find it hard to believe they suddenly turn it around and become a decent unit. Baker is a bit banged up after last week but the stars are aligning for him to have a nice game on the road in Tampa. I think he can get close to 300 yards and at least two scores. Look for Jarvis Landry to bounce back this week and that makes a Baker, Jarvis and Njoku stack look mighty nice!

Joe Flacco: $5,400 vs. New Orleans (Home)

Don’t look now but Joe flaccid is looking like a rock hard QB1 this week. Much like the Buccaneers the Saints have struggled against the pass all season and that’s been the strength of the Ravens offense. Joe has kept the turnovers down so he’s fairly safe in cash games. He’s not pretty but he’s getting the job done.

Running Back:

Sony Michel: $5,500 vs. Chicago (Road)

I love rostering running backs that are touching the ball over 20 times a game for under 6k. Michel fits the bill based on carries but his usage has been next to nothing in the passing game which is probably why his price is suppressed. I think the Patriots will try and establish the run and keep Chicago’s must faster offense off the field, much like they did against the Chiefs last week. Michel goes over 100 yards rushing again and gets you a score. Boom.

Tarik Cohen: $5,100 vs. New England (Home)

The New England linebacking corp is notoriously slow. Tarik Cohen is notoriously fast. You do the math. Jordan Howards snap share has gone from 75% to 51% since the beginning of the season. Cohen is a slam dunk pick this week in a game that might end up being a track meet.

Peyton Barber: $3,800 vs. Cleveland (Home)

My man Barber finally had a productive week last week and I think he keeps it up against a banged up Browns front that just gave up three TD’s to Melvin Gordon. The Browns are a mess at the linebacker position and I think Barber gets enough usage and the shot at a goal line score to make him usable in tournaments.

Wide Receiver:

Adam Thielen: $8,600 vs. New York Jets (Road)

There is no safer play at the receiver position than Mr. Thielen. He has eclipsed 100 yards in every game this season and continues to soak up a ton of targets from Kirk Cousins. He’s the most expensive receiver on the slate and I don’t care. Tournaments, cash, whatever, get him into your lineups.

Josh Gordon: $5,600 vs. Chicago (Road)

Guess who lead the Patriots in snaps and targets at the receiver position last week? Did you guess Josh Gordon? Nice work! He’s learning the playbook, the hammy is healing and he’s gaining the confidence of the best quarterback on the planet. All signs point to a monster game against the Bears in a game that has a high Vegas point total.

Taylor Gabriel: $4,700 vs. New England (Home)

So remember when I told you the Patriots have a problem with speed on the opposing offense? Enter Taylor Gabriel who all of a sudden has strung together two consecutive 100 yard outings. With Stephon Gilmore covering Allen Robinson that will give Gabriel the chance to run free against much slower corners Eric Rowe and Jason McCourty. Many points shall be scored in this game and Gabriel is an awesome option for exposure to that.

Tight End:

David Njoku: $4,200 vs Tampa Bay (Road)

Njoku is my must start TE of the week. The Buccaneers are the worst in the league at covering the position and Njoku is coming off a week in which he lead the team in targets and hauled in a touchdown. His upward trend continues, get him in your lineups.

O.J. Howard: $3,600 vs Cleveland (Home)

I spoke earlier about Cleveland’s troubles at the linebacker position with Joe Schoebert out. Look for the athletic Howard to take one to the house this week.

James O’Shaughnessy: $2,600 vs. Houston (Home)

This is where we are for cheap tight end plays at this point. Not a sexy option but a complete hail mary hunch on my part. No ASJ, no Niles Paul so James looks like he’s the man at the position in a plus match up. Yo. Lo.

Defense:

Jaguars: $3,600 vs. Houston (Home)

The Jags return home and they are pissed. Look for them to take out their frustration on turnover prone Deshaun Watson and the gang.

Minnesota: $3,400 vs. New York Jets (Road)

The Vikings look like they have righted the ship defensively and now face rookie Sam Darnold who has looked pretty good every other week. I think this is an “off” week for the Jets this week.

Dallas: $2,700 vs. Washington (Road)

I was really impressed with this Dallas unit last week against Jacksonville. The Redskins aren’t world beaters on offense and I know Alex Smith doesn’t turn the ball over often but I’m betting the Cowboys keep the scoring down and get some sacks. I’ll take that for their price this week.
