Best Fantasy Matchups of Week 12
Wow, this is a pretty down week for high scoring affairs. Who do I even write about whenever both the Chiefs and the Rams are on a bye this week? I’m going to have to come up with something for all of you this week on, in my eyes, a gross slate of games. I mean come on! Jacksonville vs Buffalo?! Baltimore vs Oakland? Oof. Well, I’m going to try my best and pick out a couple of these games as I really don’t see a lot of scoring going on.
San Francisco 49ers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1:00 PM ET Kickoff, O/U 54.0 (Raymond James Stadium)
Somehow this has a 54 point O/U and I have no idea as to why. I don’t see it being that high but if Vegas thinks so, then I guess I have to try and figure this out. The only real options I see for this game are going to be Mr Interception, Jameis Winston, Mike Evans (obviously) and DeSean Jackson. Let’s just start with DJ. He’s currently listed as questionable but he’s on track to play tomorrow. He hasn’t done a whole lot in the scoring department but I think he’s got a great chance to score in this game. Mike Evans will surely be covered by Richard Sherman for most of this game and that should free up some fantastic deep shots for DJ. Now, whether or not Winston can actually connect and accurately throw him a deep ball will be the real question. In his first two starts Winston threw four TD’s and four interceptions. If you’re going to stream Winston in this game, I think you can certainly feel confident that he’ll get the yardage and the touchdowns but his turnovers will come and you will have to dial back expectations and just hope that he throws more TD’s than Int’s in this contest. I have to be honest, I don’t really like anything else in this game other than those three guys. I will say that you could take a flier on Marquise Goodwin if you really want to or are desperate since he’s going against one of the worst passing defenses in the entire world. Yes, I said the entire world because I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen better defenses in some of the high school playoff football games I’ve watched over the last couple of weeks.
Miami Dolphins vs Indianapolis Colts 4:25 PM ET Kickoff, O/U 51.0 (Lucas Oil Stadium)
Another game that I don’t see hitting the over is this one. I agree that the Colts have been pretty good with Marlon Mack averaging 5.01 YPC on 94 carries along with Luck who has shown us that his shoulder is in great form throwing for 2,769 yards and 29 TD’s so far this season. I think he’ll hit the 3,000 yard mark in this game and the TE tandem of Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle should benefit as well as T.Y. Hilton. Hilton logged 155 yards and two TD’s last week against a Titans defense that hasn’t been awful and this week he gets Miami who is also not that bad but since Luck doesn’t have a lot of other options besides Hilton and his TE’s, he should be in line for another good game. Jack Doyle hasn’t gotten the touchdowns but he’s given you consistent fantasy points to count on week to week. You’ll see much of the same this week but we can hope he finds the end zone. Ebron on the other hand usually finds his success in the redone which is always good news for fantasy players who need some kind of TE value here where there aren’t a whole lot of good options in the position. Last week the targets weren’t there because they were focusing on Hilton but look for Ebron to find the end zone again in this one.
Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings 8:15 PM ET Kickoff, O/U 47.5 (U.S.Bank Stadium)
12 receptions, 131 yards, and one touchdown. That was Adam Thielen’s line the last time he played the Packers and you should see much of the same this week. Kirk Cousins focused more on Stefon Diggs in the last game against the Bears but we all know that Thielen is still Cousins’ favorite target. Fire him up with ease because he will have over ten receptions and over 100 yards this week. Diggs has also been really good as well. He’s had a couple of games where he pretty much went missing but we’ve seen that both him and Thielen can have great fantasy days in the same game. Kirk Cousins has been interesting. He’ll have some huge yardage games but then he’ll have multiple turnover games so I really don’t know what you’re going to get out of him. What I do know is that the last time he played the Pack, he threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns. I’d start him again in this game as he’s going to have to throw to keep up with Aaron Rodgers. The Vikings’ offensive line has been sub par so I’m not that high on Dalvin Cook but I’m sure that you’re going to start him as am I because you either have to or, well, you drafted him high so you’re going to play him anyway.
As far as the Packers go, theres an Aaron that I’d like to talk about but it’s not Rodgers. It’s Aaron Jones! Why it has taken this long to feature Aaron Jones is beyond me but I’m sure glad that I’ve held onto him this season. He’s an RB1 from now on and although the matchup isn’t great for him this week, you need to start him because he will get his. With the ability for Rodgers to run and throw the ball, the Vikings won’t be able to simply stack the box to stop Jones. Fire him up and watch the points fly! I’m not really going to take a whole lot about Davante Adams because he’s been fantastic all year. I don’t care about potential shadow coverage from Xavier Rhodes because he still had eight receptions for 64 and a TD on 12 targets the last time he played the Vikes. Let’s move onto MVS. You know the name, I’m not torturing myself to even type it out. With Rhodes covering Adams, MVS should see his usage bump back up to where it was before his horrid one catch for eight yard performance last week. You can flex him this week and he will certainly get back into shape and have a game that you can count on.
I’m sorry but that’s it. I hate this slate of games and I’m really not the excited about any of them. I’m still tired from all of the turkey I’ve been eating and frankly I’m ready to just sit back in my recliner, and watch some college football today because the games on Saturday, in my eyes, are a bit more exciting than some of the clunkers coming up this week on Sunday. Good luck to all of you and I’ll see you next week.
