The Stream Life: Week 5
The Stream Life absolutely crushed it last week with the suggestion of Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. With over 350 passing yards and SIX touchdowns allow me to take this moment and take a bow. When some of The Stream Life picks have been spotty I have owned those picks, so you can bet the Fantasy Football Gurus here are taking a victory lap after that Trubisky performance last week. Now it’s time for the moment of truth, how do we follow-up last week’s Stream Life? While we certainly never expected a 6-touchdown effort let’s see who’s living The Stream Life this week.
QB: Blake Bortles: Jaguars at Chiefs
The Stream Life is all about match-ups. While we prefer streaming a QB who plays at home we’re rolling the dice with Blake Bortles. The Jacksonville Jaguars certainly don’t want to get into a shootout with the Kansas City Chiefs, but if the Chiefs offense gets back on track this week when the Jaguars will be forced to throw the ball. Last week was the first time all season the Chiefs didn’t give up 2 passing touchdowns in a game. The Jaguars have some speed at wide receiver and consider Bortles as a decent QB 2 option this week.
QB: Alex Smith: Redskins at Saints
The Washington Redskins are coming off a Bye week while the New Orleans Saints are coming back home after a victory against the New York Giants. Alex Smith has yet to throw for 300 yards in a game this season, but the veteran QB has had two weeks to prepare for this game and the Saints have already given up two 50-point performances (weeks 1 and 3) to opposing quarterbacks. This could be one of those every other week type of games for the Saints defense. What I mean by that is in between those two 50 burgers the Saints defense allowed to opposing QB’S is a 15 and 16 point performance. Smith is a sneaky good option who might be available in your league since the Redskins were on a BYE last week.
QB: Marcus Mariota: Titans at Bills
The Buffalo Bills came back down to reality last week against the Green Bay Packers. Even though Aaron Rodgers had his lowest scoring fantasy week of the season against the Bills, The Stream Life is feeling confident with Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota. Last week was Mariota’s first full game with new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur and against the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, Mariota threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns. The sneaky good statistic is the 10 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown last week. Mariota was banged up going into the game last week and after seeing double-digit carries The Stream Life is drooling over a dual-threat quarterback matching up against the inconsistent Bills defense.
TE: Ricky Seals-Jones: Cardinals at 49ers
Ricky Seals-Jones led the Arizona Cardinals in receiving yards last week with 52. While that’s not worth bragging about the focus needs to be on the upcoming match-up. The 49ers have allowed a touchdown to opposing tight ends in every game this season. With all the injuries to tight ends, you can stream Seals-Jones in a fantasy position dominated by touchdown dependent success.
TE: Rhett Ellison: Giants at Panthers
It looks like the New York Giants will be without Evan Engram again this week against the Carolina Panthers. While Rhett Ellison is at least the fourth pass-catching option on his own team the Panthers have been below average against tight ends. Carolina is coming off their bye week but in 2 of their 3 games they have given up a touchdown to opposing tight ends. Ellison is more of a desperation play and with his run blocking skills, he is predominantly on the field. The Stream Life likes Ellison in a 2 TE league with hopes of a play action touchdown reception near the goal line.
TE: Dwayne Allen: Patriots vs Colts
Reports are Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots will play Thursday Night. If he has a setback or news comes out that he is to be on a snap count, then Dwayne Allen becomes a strong streaming option in what has become a depleted tight end position in fantasy football. The Patriots host the Indianapolis Colts on a short week and the Colts defense has been vulnerable against the tight end. Even if Gronkowski suits up this week, The Stream Life is rolling the dice with Allen as a low TE 2 option.
TE: Hayden Hurst: Ravens at Browns
Now, this suggestion might be a week or two early as Hayden Hurst is coming off an injury and the Baltimore Ravens might ease him into action. Before last week the Cleveland Browns have been very stingy against the tight end. Hurst has the talent to succeed with Joe Flacco, but in a rookie tight end’s first NFL game can you see success? The expectations are low here and Hurst makes The Stream Life this week strictly based on all the injuries we have seen to top-tier tight ends this year.
Team D/ST: Titans at Bills
For the returning Stream Life readers, this one has become a top play. Start the defense going against the Buffalo Bills. This week the Tennessee Titans get to unleash chaos on rookie quarterback Josh Allen and that atrocious Bills offense. If you needed more convincing, the Titans have 11 sacks over the last 3 weeks and 1 turnover in each game.
Team D/ST: Bengals vs Dolphins
If you can’t stream the Titans defense this week then let’s take a chance with the Cincinnati Bengals. After a negative point performance against the Atlanta Falcons, the Bengals defense will be focused this week to get back on track and what better way to do that then a home game against a turnover-prone offense in the Miami Dolphins. Ryan Tannehill got benched last week and I expect him to try to force throws this weekend against a defense that hasn’t created a turnover in over two weeks.
Kicker: Jake Elliot: Eagles vs Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings have been terrible against opposing kickers. Jake Elliot is coming off his first fantasy game with double digits. The signs are there for Elliot to get back to back weeks of 10+ fantasy points. For starters, Carson Wentz is back at QB and Elliot has attempted 3 field goals apiece over the last two weeks.
Kicker: Chris Boswell: Steelers vs Falcons
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons will battle in what should be a high scoring game this weekend. Both these defenses have struggled through the first 4 weeks of the season and at some point, you would think Chris Boswell will get things going. Boswell continues to trend in the wrong direction and this is the perfect opportunity to seize on a kicker with a sexy matchup.
