IDP Corner: Week 7

Regarding last week’s opening, we really have struck the middle of the season, and we really do need to look at a slightly shorter time span. Defense in the NFL progresses and changes week to week and based on opponents, especially now that we are out of the first 4 weeks of the season. A time frame where teams quickly learn what has been working for them and what they need to change, which is why we saw a good deal of depth chart updates going into week 5. So what does this week bring for thoughts?

Nick Bellore – 23 of his total 31 tackles in the past 4 weeks, have come in the two weeks since Bowman went down. Right now it looks like Bellore is the man who is going to be stepping up in his absence. A nice bonus is that he has also been collecting some secondary stats as well.

Brian Orakpo – Besides being out on week 1, he has had a minimum of 1 sack per game and has been grabbing tackles as well. If your league does tackles for loss he has been grabbing those at a high rate too.

Whitney Mercilus – 16 total tackles and 2.5 sacks in the last 3 weeks, Mercilus has been rather merciless. Ok, so maybe nothing crazy for numbers but, he’s someone lower on the charts that will be an easy grab for a bye week stream.

Defensive Backs:

Isa Abdul-Quddus, Xavien Howard, Byron Maxwell, Michael Thomas and Tony Lippett – Reshad Jones has some beastly shoes to fill with him likely done for the season, but if you have been reading all this season, you’ll know I’ve been complimentary of the whole of the Miami secondary (in regards to IDP) for most of the year. After Jones, Abdul-Quddus has the next best tackle total, of the DBs on Miami, on the season, however over the last 4 weeks he’s been a little more quiet than others here. Maxwell, Howard, Thomas, and Lippett all have better totals (in that order) in that same time frame. Maxwell also has 7 passes defended in that time (team high), followed by Lippett (with 2). I think Maxwell and Lippett can grow a little over what they are currently producing, Michael Thomas has the most to gain (as he will be going from back up to filling Jones spot) but is not likely to produce on the same level. I don’t think Abdul-Quddus will drop in production but, I think it is less than likely that he will increase production. Howard is a wild card as he just got moved back on the depth chart behind Lippett, but has been still collecting tackles.

Deshawn Shead – He has been relatively consistent this season, and last week had some great numbers against the pass heavy Atlanta offense, and over his next 6 games there should be plenty of opportunities for him to continue to perform against a collection of pass heavy teams.

Jason Pierre-Paul – This is more me just covering my bases, if he is available in your league grab him (if you play linemen), he has been quite productive this season and many people slept on him in drafts.

Damon Harrison – Speaking of the Giants, Harrison continues to grab tackles, last week he has a slight hiccup, but he’s been producing through the rest of the season.

Jurrell Casey – He’s grabbed 3 sacks in the past 2 weeks, he has also grabbed a couple tackles every game. His next 5 games feature teams with very meh offensive lines.

Good luck to everyone with the coming games this weekend, and as always if you have questions feel free to reach via twitter to myself @decoylife or the other gurus  @TFFGurus, @DaFantasyFather, and @TheFantasyBoys
