IDP Corner: TNF Week 7

I find it wonderfully odd that the “football abbreviation” for Arizona is ARI, not ARZ. I mean it makes sense being the first 3 letters of the name and all, but I feel the “Z” is a bit more of the identity of the name than the “I”. The postal abbreviation uses AZ, which is probably where my Z allegiance stems from, but that’s a two letter format. End of the day not really anything to be concerned with I suppose just kept wanting to type ARZ instead of ARI this whole article.

As for this matchup, I expect a good deal of passing. Both teams tend to not give up many sacks, so either the QB is releasing the ball quickly or is getting plenty of time in the pocket, either way, plenty of passing to go around. That said I’m not expecting a shootout like we might expect from a NO at ATL matchup.

Before diving into the players I want to highlight for this game, here’s the list of players that are likely owned and potentially already being started in your league: Chandler Jones, Budda Baker, Josh Bynes, Tre Boston, Antoine Bethea, Von Miller, and Justin Simmons.

Defensive Linemen:
Bradley Chubb, DE/OLB DEN: Depending on if your league has the DE designation is where his value sits. Coming off of a 3 sack week you might think I am pretty high on Chubb going into this week, but Arizona isn’t very prone to giving up many sacks. Additionally, previous to last week Chubb’s fantasy production has been rather pedestrian. That said he has put up points every week and if you’re in need of a bye week plug-in his production floor has been higher than Derek Wolfe all season. A problem you can run into is that Chubb is listed as ONLY an LB in many leagues, and his production at this time isn’t worth more than considering stashing him at this point if that is the case.

Markus Golden, DE ARI: Similar to Arizona, the Denver delegation does not give up much in the way of sacks so you will likely have better luck looking at a different matchup than tonight’s game. The plan in Arizona all year has been to have Golden and Chandler Jones on the ends of the line and that’s what you saw a drop in Benson Mayowa’s snaps last week, and that trend should continue as Golden shakes some rust off. While I don’t feel he’ll be wonderfully useful this week, Golden will start to be relevant in the coming weeks.

Defensive Backs:
Bene Benwikere, CB ARI: The highlight of Benwikere here point out that he’s as fantasy relevant as Patrick Peterson (who has a much higher ownership rate). Neither has been lights out, which makes sense when 3 safeties from this team are in the top 10 of DBs in basically all leagues. I’m not over the moon about starting either but, if you were considering Peterson and he isn’t available anymore Benwikere has just as good of a chance to be as productive.

Chris Harris Jr., CB DEN: The other player to look at on this defense is Darian Stewart (Safety) whose scoring has been much more boom/bust than the generally consistent nature of Harris’ fantasy production so far this year. I wouldn’t fault you for taking Stewart over Harris, but Harris production falls more in line with what I want out of a player’s predictability. Both are playing nearly all possible snaps, but again I’m not over the moon about either in this game, so play them if you need a bye week filler. I’m looking at other players and match-ups for me though.

Linebackers:
Todd Davis, LB DEN: Has the most tackles at LB in Denver and has been seeing the majority of snaps, it pains me to highlight Davis, as I thought Josey Jewell would overtake him on the depth chart, but since week 2 he’s been the best LB on the whole team. Davis hasn’t had flashy production, but it has been wonderfully stable each week, he should be an immediate add in leagues starting 3 or more LBs.

Haasan Reddick, MLB ARI: I’m always opposed to a team publicly stating if they are looking to trade away a player, but the Cardinals announced last week that they are looking to move Deone Bucannon. This will not impact Reddick at all as he’s already had multiple recent weeks with 100% snap percentage, and will likely continue on such a pace. Most people likely didn’t notice his jump in production 2 weeks ago due to Josh Bynes producing just a little more. It would be wise to pick up Reddick soon as there will likely finally be a rush once Bucannon gets traded or people realize he’s not playing.

Good luck to everyone on your Thursday endeavors. As always if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me via twitter @decoylife or the other gurus @TFFGurus.
