DraftKings DFS tips for week 5
By Doug Eddy
Hello all and welcome to week 5 of the NFL! Are you already 1-3 or 0-4? Did you draft Dez, Jordy Nelson, Big Ben etc and are already at your wits end? Daily fantasy is for you! No worries about hurt players or a terrible draft here. Pick your team and keep it under $50,000 and enter it into weekly contests to earn real money! I will be writing this column weekly with my suggestions for DraftKings lineups and cash game strategies. I will cover three options at each position who I think will break out and not have a high ownership percentage which means you have a better chance to win!
Phillip Rivers VS. PITT. $6200
Your number one QB last week is playing at home with a very favorable matchup vs. Pittsburgh and he gets Antonio Gates back too! SD may be down Stevie Johnson and Malcolm Floyd this week but I’m not worried about Rivers in the least bit. The Steelers secondary may be the worst in the NFL so take advantage and roster Mr. Bolo tie this week!
Sam Bradford VS. NO. $6000
Sam Bradford showed some life against Washington last week albeit not throwing TD’s to anyone fantasy relevant. If you watched New Orleans on Sunday night the one thing we learned is their secondary isn’t that good and that was against Terrance Williams and Devin Street. What is it going to be like vs. Matthews, Algohor etc. ride the hot hand this week as I believe another three TD day is in store.
Jay Cutler VS. KC. $5300
Smoking Jay Cutler is without a doubt one of the best memes of all time. On field Jay Cutler, not so much. He did however look decent last week vs. Oakland which leads me to believe he can do well on the road this week. Jeffrey hopes to be back but I’m not counting on it yet. I think Jay throws for over 300 yds and a couple of TDs. You could do worse at $5300 this week.
Le’Veon Bell VS. SD. $8500
Pretty obvious name here. Bell has looked every bit as good as last year so far and with San Diegos run D playing like Manti Teo’s girlfriend he should have a field day! I think the Steelers need Bell to control the game because they can’t rely on Vick to win it for them. Great situation this week and worth the big price tag.
Justin Forsett VS. CLE. $5800
Last week was the resurrection of Mr.Forsett! He looked fast and strong again last week against Pittsburgh. He has a dream matchup vs. CLE who gives up over 150yds a week on the ground. Forsett should also be heavily involved in the passing game as the Ravens are lacking playmakers, especially with no Steve Smith Sr.
Dion Lewis VS. DAL. $4800
I love me some Dion Lewis! He has been my favorite story of the fantasy season thus far. Signed off the street more or less and has become a focal point of the Super Bowl champions offense. I’m not worried about Blount eating away his touches this week. His new year dral speaks volumes as to how the team views him. Great bargain this week!
Keenan Allen VS. PITT. $7200
Keenan will benefit this week by being the only man in town at WR for San Diego with Stevie Johnson and Malcolm Floyd unlikely to play. We all know the Pittsburgh secondary isn’t anything to write home about and Allen has been soaking up targets. If you can stack Rivers and Allen you will be pleased this week.
Allen Hurns VS. TB. $4500
I love targeting WR2’s who have WR1 upside. Hurns runs clean routes and gets good separation and Jacksonville is usually coming from behind and forced to throw which benefits the hitman. Look for a 7 catch 100 yard day with a score vs. Tampa.
Jamison Crowder VS. ATL. $3500
My bargain bin play of the week! Crowder has earned the trust of Kirk Cousins and has been targeted over 15 times these past two weeks. I expect Washington to be playing catch-up this week vs. Atlanta and wouldn’t be surprised to see Crowder catch 10 balls and get over 100 yards.
Travis Kelce VS. CHI. $5200
Kelce has been pretty quiet since his two TD game in week one. “Zeus” looks to wake from his slumber and strike down Chicago this week! Throw it to your playmakers Andy Reid!
Charles Clay VS. TENN. $4100
Tyrod Taylor loves him some Charles Clay. Clay has had back to back solid games and is clearly the go to for Taylor. Clay has looked healthy and is a mismatch in the redzone which is exactly where he will be on Sunday vs. Tennessee.
Owen Daniels VS. OAK. $2700
Stop if you have heard this before. Oak gives up the most fantasy points vs. Tight Ends in the NFL. Guess what? That won’t stop this week either. Daniels goes for 50 yds and a score and at $2700 that’s a bargain.
Patriots VS. DAL. $3300
Dallas offense does nothing for me again this week and the Patriots coming off a bye means two things, they are rested and they are prepared.
Giants VS. SF. $2900
The Giants run D has been very good this year and SF looks like a mess still all the way around. This will probably the only time I use them in DFS this season.
Tampa Bay VS. JAX. $2500
Why not right? Jacksonville doesn’t score a ton and is still prone to turnovers so save yourself some money this week and roll with the Bucs.
