Draft Kings DFS Tips for Week 9
By Doug Eddy
Hello all and welcome to week 9 of the NFL! Last week was hit or miss on my picks for DFS success but no fear, we are going to rebound this week! I entered the millionaire maker and placed in the top 8000 out of 330,000 and won $50.00! Pick your team and keep it under $50,000 and enter it into weekly contests to earn real money! I will be writing this column weekly with my suggestions for DraftKings lineups and cash game strategies. I will cover three options at each position who I think will break out and not have a high ownership percentage which means you have a better chance to win!
Eli Manning @TB. $6900
The Giants are a team that cannot effectively run the football even against subpar front sevens. Eli will continue to drop back against Tampa this week and we should see a pretty high ceiling this week. He’s not an obvious name but the production is there even after a couple of down weeks. The Saints tend to cure all ailments in the passing game and look for the Bucs to make Eli look ELIte again this week. 300 yards and three TD’s may be the floor.
Tyrod Taylor VS. Mia. $5300
After missing two weeks and having a bye alot of people have forgotten about Tygod. Taylor is top six in points per game amongst his peers. He should get Watkins back and Charles Clay should once again be fantasy relevant again especially in his revenge game part two. This game could end up being a high scoring affair so take advantage of Taylor and his sweet price this week!
Jameis Winston VS. NYG $5200
Every week that I see Famous Jameis play I see a player getting more and more comfortable and really adjusting to the speed of the NFL. He is reducing his turnovers and making much better decisions. This will continue against a defense that just gave up 52 points on the road. Look for a heavy dose of Mike Evans and ASJ returns this week as well! You won’t feel crabby about picking Winston as your QB this week!
Dion Lewis VS. Was. $6400
I have a habit of targeting at least one pass catching back every week in DraftKings PPR settings and Lewis is the one to have this week. The Skins don’t have the speed outside to tackle Lewis and he will make them pay with at least one screen play TD in Gillette Stadium. Lewis will total over 100 yards from scrimmage and a TD this week and should net you over 20 points this week.
Doug Martin VS. NYG $5700
The player formerly known as the Muscle Hamster is a top five RB this year and is seeing the fourth most carries per game. The Giants run defense has faltered against good backs this year and I expect Martin to touch the ball quite a bit not only on the ground but through the air. Charles Sims be damned! His price is very attractive this week and his ownership percentage should be rather low. Take advantage!
C.J. Spiller VS. Tenn. $3100
I really wanted to put Jeremy Langford here but I think he will be owned in over 50% of entries this week. Spiller is an under the radar back who is probably going to be owned in 2% of leagues. No Khiry Robinson means more work for Spiller and Ingram. Tenn. Is vulnerable to pass catching back and I can see Spiller having 6-7 catches with some nice yardage. I don’t know if he hits paydirt or not but at $3100 he doesn’t need to in order to return value.
Alshon Jeffrey VS. SD $6700
Targets. It’s what I aim for when picking receivers not only in DFS but redraft as well. Alshon has been a target monster since his return and even though SD’s pass defense ranks pretty high they have been vulnerable the last three games. Jason Verett is a good corner but Alshon is a matchup nightmare. Vegas is saying this game will be a shootout on Monday night. I agree! Jeffrey is a steal this week at his price.
Michael Crabtree @Pitt. $4900
What if I told you Crabtree has more targets than Amari Cooper? Crabtree has established himself as one of the top WR2’s in the league and has earned Carrs trust. This may be a tough game for Oakland travelling East but I have a feeling they give the Steelers a run for their money and Crabtree snags a TD and totals 80 yards.
Willie Snead VS. Tenn. $4800
Another one of my favorite target guys. Snead is clearly Brees’ go to receiver on third down and around the goaline. Yes, Cooks has had two solid games but that’s not scaring me away this week. The Saints will continue to air it out against an overmatched Tennessee defense on the turf of the Superdome. 80 yards and two TDs should be attainable for One eyed Willie.
Antonio Gates VS. Chi. $4700
Phillip Rivers just lost his most dynamic receiver for the season so Gates now has even more workload in a pass heavy offense. Going forward he should be a target monster. Stevie Johnson will also see an uptick as well but both him and Ladarius Green are having a hard time staying healthy. Gates scores twice and puts up 70 plus yards this week against Da Bears.
Jacob Tamme @SF VS. $3000
This could be a boom or bust pick as I expect Atlanta to be up big by the half. Hopefully Tammr contributes to those points. Atlanta can’t seem to find rhythm in their WR2 spot so Tamme has benefitted quite a bit. To return his value five catches and sixty yards is all you really need this week.
Heath Miller VS. Oak. $2700
Heaaaath!! Welcome back Mr. Miller. Ten receptions last week with Big Ben was a welcome sight. The only team not to score a TE TD vs. Oakland was the Broncos this season. This bodes well for Heath and at only $2700 this week you can spend money elsewhere on studs!
Atlanta @SF. $3700
Blaine Gabbert and a bunch of no names at RB this week. Pierre Thomas signed off the street might play. Woof.
Philadelphia @Dal. $2700
Matt Cassell and Darren McFadden vs. A good front seven. I don’t expect the Cowboys to score much at all again this week.
Giants @ TB. $2700
I know I picked Winston and Martin earlier but at a nice price of $2700 the Giants are a sneaky play this week. I mean they did put up positive points even giving up 52 points last week. I’d rather have Philly but if you are looking for a low percentage owned play try this one.
