Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week Fourteen
Playoffs!? Playoffs!? There is no such thing in the DFS world! If your teams are done for the year and you still have the itch to play some fantasy then Draftkings is for you! No need to stress about a waiver wire pickup or what your bench stashes look like here, just play your favorite combination of players and rake in that money. This week presents some great value plays at the running back position but beware as most sharps will be touting the hell out of those this week. Be prepared to pivot in tournaments!
As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it!
Touchdowns: Phillip Lindsay, Davante Adams, Curtis Samuel, Indy D
First Downs: Cam Newton, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Jones, Kyle Rudolph, Patriots D
Punts: Andrew Luck, Lesean McCoy, T.Y. Hilton, Cameron Brate, Matt LaCosse, Kansas City D
Jameis Winston: $6,200 vs. New Orleans (Home)
A high Vegas points total has me exposing myself to this game fairly heavily. Jameis has been been playing great over his last two games and he’s even adding some decent rushing totals every week as a bonus. I’m not too worried about the potential for turnovers as the passing volume will be there to insulate the chance at negative points. Eat that “W” and roster Winston this week.
Baker Mayfield: $5,800 vs. Carolina (Home)
After a shaky first half against the Texans, Baker threw for almost 300 yards in the second half while they were in catch up mode. The Oanthers struggled against the pass again last week against the aformentioned Jameis Winston and crew. I expect that to happen again on the road in Cleveland. Look for Baker to cook up 300 yards and a couple of scores.
Lamar Jackson: $5,700 vs. Kansas City (Road)
Definitely some risk with Lamar this week so stick to tournament plays with him. Joe Flacco could be back this week, they are playing in a hostile environment and while the Chiefs struggled against the lowly Raiders it may have been because of the Kareem Hunt turmoil and they could bounce back big time at home. Tread cautiously but the juice could be worth the squeeze.
Christian McCaffrey: $9,300 vs. Cleveland (Road)
Out of all the high price tailbacks this week I like Dairy Sanders the most. There are TONS of cheap plays at the position so rostering studs should not be an issue whatsoever. Greg Olsen is done for the year, Funchess is banged up and CMC has zero competition for back field touches. Add to the fact the Browns defensive struggles against pass catching backs and it’s the greenest of lights.
Justin Jackson: $3,800 vs. Cincinnati (Home)
We saw a Justin Jackson break out party on Sunday night against the Steelers and I believe Jackson has earned at least fifteen touches or more in a sweet match up against the lowly Bengals defense. The Chargers should be front runners and the game script should heavily favor Jackson. He’s your best free square running back this week.
Jeff Wilson Jr.: $3,800 vs. Denver (Home)
Speaking of free square runnibg backs…enter Jeff Wilson Jr.! Matt Breida has alrwady been ruled out so Wilson will be the feature back in his stead. Wilson logged 23 touches against the Seahawks and looked pretty darn good. I expect about the same workload for him this week. A smash cash play this week. If you prefer Jaylen Samuels I don’t blame you but I think his ownership percentage is going to be bonkers and I’m worried that Stevan Ridley is going to eat in to his workload more than people think.
Julio Jones: $7,900 vs. Green Bay (Road)
Julio had a terrible week last week and I’m surprised that his price is this low. I’ll gladly take advantage of the price discrepancy and hope Julio bounces back in a big way on the road in Green Bay. I’m not in love with the more affordable receivers this week so with the money I’m saving on running back, I’m paying up at the receiver position.
Deandre Hopkins: $7,800 vs. Indianapolis (Home)
Speaking of paying up, Hopkins is another curiously priced elite option at the position this week. His volume is wonderful amd he hasn’t scored in the last couple of weeks so positive regression is due to hit. I’m betting it’s this week.
Adam Humphries: $4,900 vs. New Orleans (Home)
One of the most pleasant surprises over the last two months is this top 20 wide receiver. All he is does is get open and score touchdowns! Love Humphries and Chris Godwin at this price this week. Like I said earlier, I’m chasing points in this game when it makes sense in my builds.
Rob Gronkowski: $4,800 vs Miami (Home)
Have we ever seen Gronk this cheap in Draftkings? I don’t think so. He was used as an inline blocker for most of the Vikings game so he didn’t see many targets. We all know hesh not the same player but for this price and the state of the tight end position I’m willing to take a shot on a bounce back game on the road here.
David Njoku: $3,900 vs Carolina (Home)
Njoku has been wildly inconsistent over his last Month and has only eclipsed double digit fantasy points once in that span. The Panthers have given up 8 tds to the tight end position and Njoku is due. He’ll get his this week!
Ian Thomas: $2,700 vs. Cleveland (Road)
No Greg Olsen, no problem! Last weeks cheap tight end was an absolute bust so I’m looking to bounce back with Mr. Thomas. Huge target, huge hands and pretty athletic, Thomas should be able to creat some space against a struggling Browns defense.
Buffalo: $3,200 vs. N.Y. Jets (Home)
The Bills defense struggled last week but now they get a returning Sam Darnold to terrorize. Turnover time!
New Orleans: $2,700 vs. Tampa Bay (Road)
Sacks should be in play and we all know Jameis could implode at any time so New Orleans offers nice upside this week.
Atlanta: $2,200 vs. Green Bay (Road)
The Packers offense is struggling and they are going through a coaching change. Falcons are the YOLO play of the week on defense.
