Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week 17
Week 17 is one of my favorite weeks of the year to play DFS. There is value all over the board as teams have locked up playoff spots and are resting many of the studs that we have used all season long. It opens up a nice opportunity to take shots on guys like Malcolm Brown and then stacking the rest of your lineups with studs who you think will pay off (I’m looking at you Lesean!). It’s been a wild ride this year and I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who reads this article. It really does mean the world to me and I hope you’ve enjoyed the content and advice I’ve provided. As always I’m looking for feedback and ways to improve so please feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @dafantasyfather or drop us an email at the link at bottom. Thanks guys and gals and here is to a profitable week 17! I’ll see you next season!
As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it!
Touchdowns: Jameis Winston,Dion Lewis,Gio Bernard, Eric Ebron, Cooper Kupp
First Downs: Zeke Elliott, Travis Kelce, Cam Newton, Mike Gillislee, Mike Evans, Devante Parker, Kansas City D
Punts: Tyrod Taylor, Keenan Allen, Detroit D, Denver D
On to this weeks picks:
Matthew Stafford: $6,300 vs. Green Bay (Home)
Stafford is nails at home and this team sucks at running the football. Bold prediction, Stafford throws for 400 yards and four scores against the lowly Packers and caps off his season on a high note!
Matt Ryan: $5,900 vs. Carolina (Home)
A must win game against a struggling Panthers secondary that is allowing over 300 yards a game over the last month. Ryan has been a disappointment this season but week 17 will be his redemption song!
Patrick Mahomes: $4,700 vs. Denver (Road)
Ok, all you big onions players out there! Here is the YOLO play of the week. Mahomes was announced as the starter against Denver, on the road. Not exactly and ideal spot but Mahomes upside is very intriguing at this price. He’s a tournament only play especially considering that Hunt, Kelce and Hill may sit out the majority of this game.
Lesean McCoy: $8,000 vs. Miami (Road)
The Bills still have a small chance at making the playoffs so I believe their game plan will be to lean on Lesean in the nice Miami weather. Twenty plus touches for 100 scrimmage yards and two scores for Shady this week!
Kenyan Drake: $7,200 vs. Buffalo (Home)
Great match up, no competition, nothing to play for except spoiling the Bills playoff hopes. Fire up the marathon rapper this week in cash and tournaments!
Wayne Gallman: $4,200 vs. Washington (Home)
Guess who leads all running backs in targets over the last three weeks? It’s Wayne freaking Gallman! It sure looks like it’s Gallman’s backfield in week 17 and he offers some upside against a Washington defense that has allowed over 140 yards rushing on average over the last three weeks.
Bonus a.k.a Week 17’s rest your starters specials:
Corey Clement: $4,100 vs. Dallas (Home)
Look for the Eagles to rest Jay Ajayi and Legarrette Blount in this one. Clement could see upwards to twenty touches.
Branden Oliver: $4,000 vs. Oakland (Home)
Melvin Gordon has a high ankle sprain and Austin Eckeler has a broken hand and will strictly play on special teams. If Gordon is a no go then Oliver becomes a must play in tournaments against the soft Raiders defense.
Malcolm Brown: $3,900 vs. San Francisco (Home)
Todd Gurley will not play and Brown is the only capable workhorse on the roster. Much like Clement, Brown will likely see twenty or more touches in a nice match up.
Stevan Ridley: $3,500 vs. Cleveland (Home)
A name from fantasy past! Le’Veon Bell just surpassed 400 touches on the season so it would be no shock if he played in a very limited role on Sunday opening the door for the Steelers to grind the newly acquired Ridley into dust.
Julio Jones: $8,200 vs. Carolina (Home)
Stack him up with Matty Ice this week as I believe Julio is going to eat this week much like Mike Evans did the week prior.
Larry Fitzgerald: $6,900 vs. Seattle (Road)
Will this be Larry’s last game? We don’t know yet but you can book double digit targets against a Seattle defense that has struggled against slot receivers over the last three weeks. Come back in 2018 Larry!
A.J. Green: $6,300 vs. Baltimore (Road)
An elite receiver at a bargain price! This is a potential blow up spot for Ariel Jeremiah Green. One hundred plus yards and a score seems like the floor to me this week which means he will be in most of my cash game lineups.
T.Y. Hilton: $5,900 vs. Houston (Home)
It’s a Hilton boom week! T.Y. pleasantly surprised us last week with a 100 yard game and I think he builds upon that in the juiciest of match ups.
Ryan Grant: $3,600 vs. New York Giants (Road)
Shocker special! Grant has shown he is a favorite of Kirk Cousins and I think he has a nice 6/75/1 kind of day against an injured Giants secondary.
Jack Doyle: $4,700 vs. Houston (Home)
TE is ugly at the top this week. Most of the big names are either hurt or not playing much if at all because of their different playoff scenarios. Enter Jack Doyle I guess? Volume should be healthy this week so I’ll take him in cash games.
Eric Ebron: $4,500 vs. Green Bay (Home)
Talk about a strong finish to the season. Eric Ebron has been a top five Tight End over the last month and looks to cap off his season in a big way against a Green Bay defense that is actually pretty good against the position. I say he pays off again regardless of match up.
George Kittle: $2,800 vs. Los Angeles Rams (Road)
Here is my coupon clipper of the week! I think there is some good rapport that is starting to build between Jimmy G and Kittle and that has me excited against a Rams team that will be playing with back ups in week 17
Detroit: $3,700 vs. Green Bay (Home)
The Packers didn’t score any points last week and looked completely flat. I think the Packers score this week but turnovers and sacks should still be in play against Brett Hundley and crew.
Washington: $3,200 vs. New York Giants (Road)
Davis Webb might get some run in this game so you never know when a “Peterman” game can happen with a rookie Quarterback.
San Francisco: $2,100 vs. L.A. Rams (Road)
Sean Mannion will be your starting QB. He’s not good folks.
That wraps up Doug’s Draftkings player picks for the 2017 season! If you have any questions please shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or feel free to send us a tweet @dafantasyfather, @TFFGurus, and @thefantasyboys. Good luck and let’s win some money!!!
