Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week 16
The Christmas season is upon us and holy shit am I behind. I recently completed a trip to Nebraska to help a friend move and then came back to appointment after appointment, podcasts to record, an article to write and gifts I still need to buy, wrap etc. On top of that we are hosting Christmas for the family. So with that said enjoy a semi shortened article this week as I have to be an absolute time management boss this week!
As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it!
Touchdowns: Lamar Jackson, Dalvin Cook, Jordy Nelson, Atlanta D
First Downs: Tom Brady, Ezekiel Elliott, Allen Robinson II, Vance Mcdonald, Jacksonville D
Punts: Kenneth Dixon, Juju Smith-Schuster, Kyle Rudolph, Jared Cook. Detroit D
Baker Mayfield: $6,100 vs. Cincinnati (Home)
Baker slightly disappointed on the road in Denver last week but he’s going to bounce back in a big way at home against the Bengals. In week 12 Mayfield torched the Bengals for 258 yards and four touchdowns in Cincinnati. The Bengals are lacking play makers now that A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd are out so Baker should see an extra 2-3 possessions to boot.
Josh Allen: $5,800 vs. New England (Road)
The Patriots defense has been an up and down unit all season but typically they play better when they are at home. Their run defense has been atrocious over the last month and now enters Allen who has averaged 85 yards rushing over his last four games. Love his upside this week and he’s a great tournament play.
Nick Foles: $4,700 vs. Houston (Home)
The Houston Texans pass defense ranks middle of the pack and honestly they haven’t faced any elite Quarterbacks this year for the most part so I love Foles this week. He threw the ball 31 times against the Rams and though he didn’t pass for a touchdown he looked pretty good. I think Foles hits 300 yards and two scores at home against the Texans.
Alvin Kamara: $7,400 vs. Pittsburgh (Home)
Alvin has only been averaging about 15 points a game over his last four games and also has only scored once in that span. This is also a tough spot on paper against a Pittsburgh defense that has been playing the run well. His ownership will most likely be down and this is exactly why I want to play Kamara this week at home. The whole Saints offense is due for positive regression and I’m betting Brees and Kamara is where it starts.
John Kelly: $4,000 vs. Arizona (Road)
There are whispers that Todd Gurley may not play and that if he does he will be “limited”. I know the Rams just signed C.J. Anderson off the street but he doesn’t worry me off of John Kelly. Keep your eye on the reports and see how the Rams are going to treat Gurley on Sunday and then plan accordingly.
Kalen Ballage: $3,700 vs. Jacksonville (Home)
OMG, my prospect crush Kalen Ballage finally had an opportunity to get some carries after the injury to Frank Gore and he looked pretty damn good. Kenyan Drake only garnered five touches on the day while Ballage touched the ball 13 times. I think Ballage gets the lions share of carries against the Jags and more than pays off his salary this week!
Davante Adams: $8,500 vs. New York Jets (Road)
There hasn’t been a more consistent wide receiver this season. There, I said it. Use Adams in your cash or tournament games this week. Rodgers says he’s playing and I just saw what Deandre Hopkins did to the Jets secondary. Wheels up for Adams.
Alshon Jeffrey: $5,300 vs. Houston (Home)
It appears that Alshon Jeffrey is back. He’s my favorite mid tier priced receiver this week. He’s seen 17 targets over the last two weeks and now gets that aforementioned Texans pass defense. I think Alshon hits for 80 yards and a score this week.
Robby Anderson: $4,500 vs. Green Bay (Home)
Fun fact: Robby Anderson lead the NFL in air yards last week. He’s really the only weapon in the passing game and I love him against a Packers defense that hasn’t been much to write home about.
David Njoku: $3,800 vs Cincinnati (Home)
I know, I know, it’s Njoku in the Draftkings article again. I can’t quit you David. The last time he faced the Bengals he did have 5 receptions for 63 yards so there is upside here. Will this be the week? I HOPE SO!
Austin Hooper: $3,700 vs Carolina (Road)
A donut last week for Mr. Hooper, woof. He should bounce back just fine against the Panthers as their season is all but over now that Cam Newton is done for the year.
Blake Jarwin: $3,000 vs. Tampa Bay (Home)
Chasing cheap targets. The name of my new country album. Jarwin has 14 targets over the last two weeks so that makes him usable against the Tampa defense. You could do worse at 3k.
Cleveland: $3,000 vs. Cincinnati (Home)
Jeff Driskel, C.J. Uzomah, Cody Core, John Ross and god know who else paired with Joe Mixon. Fire up the Browns who are still in contention for the playoffs. Wild.
New Orleans: $2,300 vs. Pittsburgh (Home)
The Saints defense has only given up 12 points a game over the past month and the Steelers struggled at home against the Patriots by only scoring 17 points. This is a sneaky play that could really pay off in tournaments.
Buffalo: $2,200 vs. New England (Road)
WOAH! The Pats are 13 point favorites! I don’t care. Brady is dinged up and now Josh Gordon is walking away from football AGAIN! This might be a trap game for the Pats against a Bills team that doesn’t quit!
