Best Fantasy Matchups of Week 13
By now, if you’re still reading this weekly article, you’re either headed to the fantasy playoffs or are desperately trying to avoid the last place punishment. We’ve got a good set of games this week that should pan out for some of you, but, if the Thursday night barn burner between the Cowboys and Saints are any indication of this week then we all might be in some trouble. Let’s see what we can conjure up this week.
LA Rams vs Detroit Lions 1:00 PM ET Kickoff, O/U 55.0 (Ford Field)
Yay! The Rams are back from their bye and this surely makes it an easy article already! They’re well rested, want to secure the division, and are fighting the Saints to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They’re going to come out swinging and you should be very happy by the end of this game. Start the usual suspects in this game. You already know who they are but I’ll go ahead and remind you. You’ve got Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, Robert Woods, and Brandon Cooks. Play them all. I wouldn’t worry too much about Darius Slay covering one of those two guys because they will still get theirs.
Just quickly on the other side of the ball, with the Lions surely to be down in this game I really like a couple of players. Unlike last week where LeGarrette Blount had a couple of touchdowns, I think this is going to be more of a Theo Riddick game. Stafford loves to check down to this guy and with Kerryon Johnson already ruled out, he could have a great day in PPR leagues. There’s no Marvin Jones again this week so just like Riddick, you can start Kenny Golladay with confidence. He’s got one drop on 84 targets and averages a little over 15 yards per reception. He’ll be all systems go for me on Sunday.
Carolina Panthers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1:00 PM ET Kickoff, O/U 54.0 (Raymond James Stadium)
Cam Newton seems to be matchup proof at this point. He’s been a superhero consistently and it helps that he has guys like Christian McCaffrey to help him. Cam has thrown 22 touchdowns at this point and you should be ready to see him pad that line by probably four more. I can easily see Newton throw all over this Tampa Bay team. I don’t have much to say about CMC but he’s an elite talent and should feast on the Bucs. Devin Funchess is expected to play in this game as he got in a couple of limited practices this week so you can start him and I would also still play DJ Moore in my flex spot as he’s coming into form and looks better and better week after week.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders 4:05 PM ET Kickoff, O/U 55.0 (Oakland Coliseum)
Another great thing to see is the Chiefs also back from their bye! So this makes it really easy to close out this article today. First, let’s start with the running back situation. Spencer Ware is in line to start against Oakland and what a matchup he’s going to get! The Raiders allow the most rushing yards in the game and Ware was a starter at one point before going to an injury. He’s got fresh legs and might just run for 200 yards in this game and a couple of scores. If you were able to pick up Ware on your free agent market, you’re in for a wild finish! As for the rest of the Chiefs, you can expect to see much of the same from these guys as you have seen all year. Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill are going to have huge games as well as Mahomes. This whole team will have a big day and you should be excited if you have any of them going against the Raiders this week.
On another note, the only guy I like on the other side of the ball is Jalen Richard. If you’re in a PPR league, the Raiders will be down in this game and they will have to throw. Richard should get ten receptions in this game. That’s it. I don’t like any other Raider and I never will.
That’s it for this week folks. I didn’t mention this in the main article but I just want to touch on Kareem Hunt. It’s such a disappointment to see something like this. Not because of its fantasy implications because that is surely secondary to what has happened. Domestic violence is never, ever a good thing and to see someone with such promise do this to a woman is disheartening. This one decision could potentially change his whole life and it’s sad to see such a talent go to waste because of his sickening act. Please, everyone, respect women.
