Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week 14

Missed the playoffs? It’s ok, I missed the playoffs in a few leagues too. Now you can extend your fantasy football season by playing Draftkings in weeks 14-17! If you are just starting to play then I welcome you in and if you’ve been playing I hope you read this every week and that it has helped you during the season. It’s another tricky week in the milly maker so join me as I guide you through the upside down so you can come out on the other end unscathed!

As important as it is for the “chalk” to hit in GPP’s it’s just as important to find those contrarian plays that nobody else is playing to increase your chances of placing in the money. It’s a gentle balance, that’s for sure. Lineup construction is the most important piece to success. Take your time, do your research and go with your gut as to who YOU think will do well. Group think can cloud your thinking! I’m just a guide to help you and I hope you enjoy my advice every week.

As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it!

Touchdowns: Blake Bortles, Alex Collins, DeDe Westbrook, Hunter Henry, Kyle Rudolph, Jacksonville D, Miami D

First Downs: Philip Rivers, Dion Lewis, Deandre Hopkins, Cooper Kupp

Punts: Brett Hundley, Jordan Howard, Davante Adams,Jared Cook, Detroit D

On to this weeks picks:

Russell Wilson: $6,200 vs. Jacksonville (Road)

On paper this appears to be a horrible match up for my MVP front runner, Russell Wilson. His price was sharply reduced this week based on opposing quarterbacks performances against the Jags. To me, Russell Wilson is completely match up proof this year so I am definitely taking advantage of the bargain basement pricing from Draftkings this week and stacking some other studs among my lineup.

Jimmy Garappollo: $5,500 vs. Houston (Road)

I was so happy to see Jimmy G finally get an opportunity to lead a team outside of Tom Brady’s shadow and he looked great! Houston’s secondary continues to get torched on a weekly basis and Jimmy G likes to go vertical in the passing game so this is a match made in heaven. I expect Jimmy to eclipse 300 yards and throw for at least two scores this week in an upset win by San Fran.

Deshone Kizer: $4,900 vs. Green Bay (Home)

Look, 15/32 is an ugly completion percentage but 215 yards and a score through the air paired with 46 rushing yards is completely usable in DFS. The Packers defense has been playing soft and I think Kizer and his merry band of physical freaks can fully take advantage of that on Sunday. Will they win the game? I say maybe if Kizer can make smart decisions and reduce the amount of turnovers they have a shot.

Running Back:

Lesean McCoy: $7,200 vs. Indianapolis (Home)

Shady looked good against the Patriots as he tallied over 100 yards from scrimmage and probably should have had a crack at the endzone at the two yard line but they chose to pass instead, annoying. I don’t really like that many of the higher priced options at the running back position this week in the milly maker so it’s pair McCoy and some cheaper options week for me.

Peyton Barber: $4,500 vs. Detroit (Home)

I wrote up Alex Collins in this space last week as he was facing the Lions suspect run defense and all he did was run for two touchdowns (humble brag). Peyton Barber draws the same Lions d and the biggest question here is if Doug Martin returns from his concussion. If Martin returns I still like Barber to lead the team in carries and have the better stat line. At this point in his career Martin is a JAG and the Bucs have nothing to play for so they might as well have a look at a guy like Barber who has some long term potential for them.

Jay Ajayi: $4,500 vs. L.A. Rams (Road)

It appears as the tide may be turning in the Eagles back field as Ajayi finally lead the team in touches with nine carries and three receptions for 46 yards against a tough Seattle defense. The best way to attack the Rams is on the ground and I have a hunch Ajayi once again leads the Eagles in touches and puts together a nice game on the west coast.

Wide Receiver:

Adam Thielen: $7,200 vs. Carolina (Road)

Coming off his first game this season with under five receptions, Thielen finds himself in a nice bounce back spot on the road in Carolina. The match up on paper, price and recency bias may keep the masses off of Thielen this week so take advantage of a super safe option at the receiver position this week.

Josh Gordon: $5,500 vs. Green Bay (Home)

This is a bit of a no brainer play for me this week as Gordon not only looked great but he was peppered with targets now faces the Packers at home. Recency bias will definitely inflate his ownership but I want at least some coverage from Flash Gordon in my lineups. Pair him with Kizer and Njoku and have fun watching the game!

Marqise Lee: $4,400 vs. Seattle (Home)

The Seahawks get scorched by a USC receiver in week 13 and now they get scorched by a USC receiver in week 14! What a world we live in! Double digit targets and a score last week and I think Lee repeats that feat at home against the Hawks. Easy peasy as Bob Newby would say. R.I.P.

Trent Taylor: $3,100 vs. Houston (Road)

I love the PPR format in Drafkings and players like Taylor are perfectly set up to excel. Six catches for 92 yards and now he finds himself in a great spot for more success with Jimmy G. Stop me if you’ve heard this but Jimmy G will be throwing to a small, shifty, white slot receiver. Edelman 2.0? We shall see.

Tight End:

Travis Kelce: $7,400 vs. Oakland (Home)

Ugly week yet again at the position so spend up for Kelce in a great match up against the Raiders. Cash game lock of the week for me.

Jimmy Graham: $5,000 vs. Jacksonville (Road)

All he does is score touchdowns! Five scores in his last four games. Book another one against the Jags this week.

Stephen Anderson: $3,200 vs. San Francisco (Home)

12 targets. 5 receptions. 79 yards. A touchdown. Yes please!

N.Y. Jets: $3,300 vs. Denver (Road)

Trevor Siemien has been announced as the starter for week 14. Fire up the Jets D, Trevor is a turnover waiting to happen.

Buffalo: $3,100 vs. Indianapolis (Home)

The Colts are really struggling right now and the Bills play much better defense at home against teams not name the Patriots.

Seattle: $3,100 vs. Jacksonville (Road)

The Seahawks just held the highest scoring offense to ten points. Last time I checked the Jags aren’t in the same class as the Eagles. Solid play this week.
