IDP Corner: Week 17

Congratulations on making it here. The end of the season. The end of the fantasy playoffs (if it wasn’t last week for your league(s)). There are plenty of players and opportunities to look at for next season, but this week we will stick to if you just need help for the week. But be on the lookout for IDP offseason articles as well.

On to this week:

Linebackers:

Za’Darius Smith – While the Baltimore defense can play in many different formations, of late they like 4 LBs on the field, with Zachary Orr our they need someone to fill in at middle linebacker, and I think given the inexperience for either of the backup MLBs on the team, that it is more likely Terrell Suggs will move over, and Smith with move forward in the depth chart at OLB. Patrick Onwuasor and Brennen Beyer, are the two MLB backups with Beyer being the direct backup to Orr, but their combined tackles on the season total under 10.

Rey Maualuga – Cincinnati will be without Vontaze Burfict, and will be sitting plenty of key players on both offense and defense. Maualuga has been a solid player in the past, even recording one season with 120 combined tackles, so his talent has been there. The Ravens are planning on playing starters so, expect plenty of work to the fleet of TEs they have, along with the decent amount of run plays they do anyway… and Maualuga looks like a good option.

Sam Barrington – New Orleans has little to play for and with Craig Robertson being nicked up a little, it is likely we see Barrington as more of a tryout for next year. Be on the lookout for a Travis Freeney sighting as well.

Defensive Backs:

D.J. Swearinger – With injuries continuing to riddle the Cardinals defensive back field, Swearinger will continue to be required to work. Tony Jefferson is done for the season, and it looks like Marcus Cooper will see limited or no play, so it will basically be Swearinger and Patrick Person and a bunch of guys with little to no game experience. Feel free to play Trevon Hartfield if you feel like gambling.

Trevin Wade – The prominent reason here is that the NYG/WAS game is relatively meaningless, and while Janoris Jenkins has been practicing, why risk injuring him now, when you can rest him up for the impending wild card game and have Wade catch more snaps. Which could help the Giants in the scheme of playoff football too if Wade can step up.

Bacarri Rambo / Michael Thomas – The Patriots are most likely about to shell the ever loving tar out of the Dolphins. Coming into this game Miami already gives up leagues of yardage, and now Isa Abdul-Quddus won’t be playing this week, so expect plenty of work over the top. Rambo and Thomas have very similar statistical seasons going, and even had the same stat line against the Bills last week (7 solo tackles, 1 assisted). So, honestly it is a bit of a coin flip who will produce more, but I feel like both are going to be doing some work this week.

Good luck to everyone with the coming games this weekend, and as always if you have questions feel free to reach out via twitter to me @decoylife or the other gurus @TFFGurus, @DaFantasyFather, and @TheFantasyBoys.
