IDP Corner: Week 16

As an early Christmas present and a friendly reminder, most games are getting played today, so set your lineups y’all.

And now to restate why I write IDP Corner. This week while doing research on the DB situation for a team, that happens to have 3 DBs on IR and another Out this week, all 4 are still projected to score points in a couple mainstream Fantasy Football services. I know and understand IDP is a red headed step child for fantasy, but this is where you can see that to the major providers, IDP is clearly an afterthought… if the 99% of articles written about fantasy week to week didn’t indicate that to you already.

Defensive Backs:

Valentino Blake – Filling in for the injured Jason McCourty should not be too big of a task for Blake, as he has had 2 good back to back weeks. The Jaguars will likely throw because they will likely be down most of the game. Other DBs in Tennessee are good, but they have already been starting and aren’t really standing out, so I expect minimal production increases from them.

Tony Lippett – When all the DBs are healthy in MIA, Lippett’s potential becomes limited, but with Byron Maxwell out this week, Lippett should continue to take over his role like he did last week against the Jets. Buffalo won’t throw as often, but Lippett should be pulling the Sammy Watkins draw so plays should be coming his way.

Jaquiski Tartt – With starting safety Jamie Ward (who had been doing well of late) headed to the IR, Tartt is the next man up to line up next to Antoine Betha in San Francisco. The Rams should provide plenty of run and short pass fodder (both Goff and Keenum yards per attempt average were under 6 last week) so both Tartt and Betha have plenty of chances to do some work.

Linemen:

Kawann Short – 18 total tackles, 2 sacks, a pass defended, and a forced fumble in the past 4 weeks, Short should be on your radar this week due to the late season situation of both teams in this game. Carolina has little to play for, while Atlanta is trying to lock up a playoff spot, so I can see if ATL gets up early that some starters on the CAR offense could get pulled, which means the Falcons could see plenty of time on offense, and if they are up, they will run… which is good for DL players, oddly enough. Obviously this scenario is not guaranteed BUT Short has been doing well in both wins and losses, so if you are in need of some DL help this week, Short has my eye.

Linebackers:

A.J. Klein – There have been two players who have emerged from the Panthers mid/late season injury woes, Daryl Worley (a bonus player to highlight this week) and Klein. Worley has been the DB of interest there, while Klein has emerged as the LB2 (scoring wise) since Luke Kuechly went down with a concussion. Both of these guys should benefit from the offense happy Hawks.

Sio Moore – Maybe the most risky of plays, as Seattle does not typically give up a great deal of points to LBs, the thing is that Moore can produce given time to learn a team’s system and opportunity to play. Both of which he has been given in ARZ and last week showed that. Do I expect another 11 tackle week, no, but if Seattle gets a lead, I could see them trying to slow the game down with short passes and runs.

Michael Wilhoite – Last week after Bellore went down early in the game, Wilhoite played every down on defense for the rest of the game. Gerald Hodges has been has been skating on thin ice with the team to the point that he was told not to dress last week, and while SF has picked up some free agent LBs, Wilhoite actually knows their play book.

Spencer Paysinger – Over the past three weeks he has put together some respectable numbers and with Kiko Alonso still questionable coming into this week and with the Bills run game being their focus, Paysinger should still see plenty of opportunity to get points.

Edwin Jackson – Has been playing with a strong floor for the past 4 weeks, he hasn’t put up elite numbers, but he is getting plenty of work, is scarcely owned, and should continue to get snaps. If you need some solid points stable points from your defense, it might be time to grab Jackson.

Good luck to everyone with the coming games this weekend, and as always if you have questions feel free to reach out via twitter to me @decoylife or the other gurus @TFFGurus, @DaFantasyFather, and @TheFantasyBoys.
