Doug’s Draftkings Player Picks Week 16

Happy Holidays everyone and welcome to week 16’s picks!

Who needs the playoffs when you have DFS! If you are out of contention in your season long leagues I highly recommend giving Draftkings a try. No draft or injuries to worry about and you can pick whoever you want as long as you stay within the salary cap. The best part is being able to win money! I’ve done pretty well this season and I only play for small amounts on a week to week basis. If you are new to Draftkings they actually have beginner tournaments for players that don’t have a ton of experience based on their profile and history. These matchups are a great way to get introduced to the game. Read this article, go to www.draftkings.com or download the app and go make yourself some extra Christmas cash!

Now as important as it is for the “chalk” to hit in GPP’s it’s just as important to find those contrarian plays that nobody else is playing to increase your chances of placing in the money. It’s a gentle balance, that’s for sure. Lineup construction is the most important piece to success. Take your time, do your research and go with your gut as to who YOU think will do well. Group think can cloud your thinking! I’m just a guide to help you and I hope you enjoy my advice every week.

As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 3-5X their value, which I discussed in the week one article. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it! With that said here are the results from week eight:

Touchdowns:

Lesean Mccoy, Jordy Nelson, Patriots D

First Downs:

Andrew Luck, Tyrod Taylor, Lagarette Blount, Kenneth Dixon, Tyreek Hill, Rishard Matthews, Bills D, Ladarius Green

Punts:

Tom Brady, T.J. Yeldon, Sammy Watkins, Marquise Lee, Travis Kelce, Delanie Walker, Cardinals D

Quarterback:

Cam Newton: $6,600 vs. Atlanta (Home)

Fresh off a 300 yard, two touchdown effort on Monday Night Football , Cam is in a great spot against a soft Atlanta D at home. I expect this one to be a shoot out as both teams have been vulnerable in the passing game. Cam is the 10th highest priced QB on Saturdays slate. Take advantage.

Matt Barkley: $5,000 vs. Washington (Home)

I have to be honest here, Barkley is going to be in a bunch of my lineups on Saturday. For some reason he’s at the bare minimum pricing in an absolutely juicy game at home. Barkley just had a 362 yard game with two scores. He did however contribute three turnovers and that is always a concern but I think he only turns it over once against a defense not known for making big plays. 300 yards and two scores might be his floor this week. Sign me up!

Tom Savage: $5,000 vs. Cincinnati (Home)

This is a bit of a wildcard play but I liked what I saw after Savage took over for Osweiler.  Like Barkley, Savage is also at the minimum pricing so picking either of them will allow you to load up on studs like David Johnson, Bell, Brown, Zeke, Mccoy etc. He had 260 yards in relief albeit without a score. Great tournament play.

Running Back:

Jordan Howard: $6,300 vs. Washington  (Home)

Don’t look now but Jordan Howard has at least 99 yards from scrimmage in seven straight games and offers a safe floor in cash and tournaments. Washington just gave up 125 yards to Jonathan Stewart and plays soft as charmin against the run. 100 yards and a score this week for Howard.

Jonathan Stewart: $5,200 vs. Atlanta (Home)

Speak of the devil! Stewart is coming up big down the stretch for the Panthers and has scored or gone over 100 yards in four of his last five games. He doesn’t get many targets in the passing game but hes averaging 24 carries in the last two games so I think he will have a nice workload Saturday.

Mark Ingram: $4,400 vs. Tampa Bay (Home)

17 carries for 78 yards and was poached for two touchdowns by Tim Hightower last week. There has to be some course correction at the goal line and I think it’s this week. Ingram was heated that he got pulled last week and let everyone know it. C’mon Sean Payton and let ingram get that 100k bonus!

Wide Receiver:

T.Y. Hilton: $7,800  vs. Oakland (Road)

I like Antonio Brown this week but I think his ownership will be pretty high so I’m pivoting to T.Y. Always a healthy supply of targets and big play upside make him a safe play for cash games and the ability to pop off in tournaments!

Malcolm Mitchell: $5,200 vs. New York Jets (Home)

The Jets have nothing to play for and couldn’t cover a wet paper bag in their secondary. New England is at home and I think Mitchell is the biggest benefactor in the passing game this week. Matt Moore just dropped four Td’s on the Jets last week and last I checked Tom Brady >Matt Moore.

Tyler Lockett: $4,800 vs. Arizona (Home)

Lockett is finally 100% healthy and seeing an average of seven targets a game over the last four. This is a bit of a point chasing play but I love the price and the matchup against a Cardinals D that just got lit up by Brandin Cooks who plays a similar role to Lockett. I’m hoping 100 yards and a score is in Tyler’s future!

Bonus:

Cameron Meredith: $4,700 vs. Washington (Home)

Alshon Jeffrey should see Josh Norman for most of this game so I LOVE Meredith out of the slot this week. 15 catches in the last two weeks with an average of 88 yards is a great floor for cash games. I LOVE him in tournaments this week too. 100 yards on seven catches would be too sweeeeeeet!!

Tight End:

Greg Olsen: $5,200 vs. Atlanta (Home)

Just like last week, I’m perfectly Ok with paying up at tight end this week. A nice Newton,Stewart and Olsen stack is affordable and offers a ton of upside.

Antonio Gates: $4,400 vs. Cleveland (Road)

We all know Cleveland is a dumpster fire and Gates is only three touchdowns away from the all time record with two games left. Narrative street play as Rivers may try to force Gates the ball early and often on the road.

C.J. Fiedorowicz: $3,700 vs. Cincinnati (Home)

C.J. missed last weeks game with a concussion and Ryan Griffin had a nice day with Tom Savage under center going 8/85. I like C.J. to have a similar line against a Cincinnati defense that has struggled against the TE.

Defense:

Green Bay: $3,300 vs. Minnesota (Home)

The Minnesota offense is terrible and the Packers have eight interceptions in their last two games.

New England: $3,600 vs. New York Jets (Home)

Another struggling offense versus a surging defense.

San Francisco: $2,800 vs. Los Angeles (Road)

I love this cheap play this week as the Rams have struggled to score points all season and the Niners shut them out on opening day. Yes, that was forever ago but still.
