Doug’s Draftkings player picks week 14

Who needs the playoffs when you have DFS! If you are out of contention in your season long leagues I highly recommend giving Draftkings a try. No draft or injuries to worry about and you can pick whoever you want as long as you stay within the salary cap. The best part is being able to win money! I’ve done pretty well this season and I only play for small amounts on a week to week basis. If you are new to Draftkings they actually have beginner tournaments for players that don’t have a ton of experience based on their profile and history. These matchups are a great way to get introduced to the game. Read this article, go to www.draftkings.com or download the app and go make yourself some extra Christmas cash!

Now as important as it is for the “chalk” to hit in GPP’s it’s just as important to find those contrarian plays that nobody else is playing to increase your chances of placing in the money. It’s a gentle balance, that’s for sure. Lineup construction is the most important piece to success. Take your time, do your research and go with your gut as to who YOU think will do well. Group think can cloud your thinking! I’m just a guide to help you and I hope you enjoy my advice every week.

As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down into three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 5X their value, which I discussed in the week one article. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it! With that said here are the results from week eight:

Touchdowns: David Johnson, Jimmy Graham, Travis Kelce

First Downs: Aaron Rodgers, Theo Riddick, Tyreek Hill, Coby Fleener,Green Bay

Punts: Colin Kaepernick, Jared Goff, Dion Lewis, Brandin Cooks, Marquess Wilson, Philly D, Miami

Quarterback:

Jameis Winston: $6,700 vs. New Orleans (Home)

A home game with playoff implications versus a soft secondary is exactly why Winston is one of my plays of the week. I love Jameis in big games. He always stepped up to the task in college and it’s carried over to the NFL. The Bucs are humming right now so ride the wave and roster Jameis. I’d also look to stack Winston, Evans, Martin and Brate this week in some GPP’s.

Kirk Cousins: $6,300 vs. Philadelphia (Road)

Philadelphia is fresh off getting waxed by the Bengals and now one of the best passing games in the league comes to town. I love all the Redskins pass catching options this week so of course, I love Captain Kirk too.  They make for one of the most affordable stacks of the week if you roll with Kirk, Crowder, Garcon, Djax and Vernon Davis. I like Djax the least of that group because of the price and the fact it’s one point PPR. Yes, I know it’s a “revenge” game but there are other options in his price range I like more. 300 yards and three touchdowns for Kirk this week!

Carson Palmer: $5,700 vs. Miami (Road)

Palmer erupted on the Falcons defense for 300 yards and three scores and honestly I could see him repeating that feat against a Dolphins team that got absolutely torched by Joe Flacco. Palmer, David Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald are all in play this week for me. Palmer has gone over 300 yards in four of his last six games.

Running Back:

Demarco Murray: $7,000 vs. Denver  (Home)

This my favorite play of the week and I think Demarco could end up as the RB1, Denver is soft against the run and just lost starting middle linebacker Brandon Marshall. We all know Demarco is gonna get fed and he’s fresh coming off the bye. He will probably be in the majority of my cash and GPP lineups. 150 yards from scrimmage and a couple of scores for Mr. Murray in week fourteen.

Lamar Miller: $5,100 vs. Indianapolis (Road)

Contrarian city! Miller hasn’t really done anything remarkable as of late and has only eclipsed double-digit fantasy points once in the last month. With that said Miller offers a safe floor this week against a now D’Qwell Jackson less run defense in Indy. Lamar lit up the Colts last time to the tune of 180 yards from scrimmage and two scores. If Lamar can avoid getting dinged up this week I think he can eclipse 100 yards and a score in a must win game. Great value!

Todd Gurley: $5,000 vs. Atlanta (Home)

Contrarian ghetto! I know, I know Todd Gurley hasn’t done this and that and I cant trust him blah, blah, blah. Todd should see plenty of work against one of the worst defenses in the league. I still believe in Todd, you are too damned talented!

Wide Receiver:

Odell Beckham Jr.: $8,000  vs. Dallas (Home)

I love Odell in prime time games. Nothing like an NFC East showdown with huge playoff implications to pop off! I expect 8 catches, 120 yards and a score for the bleached wonder boy on Sunday night.

Jamison Crowder: $5,600 vs. Philadelphia (Road)

Solid as a rock Mr. Crowder is. Eight straight weeks of either 85 yards receiving or a score. I’ll take that consistency at $5,600 seven days a week.

Emmanuel Sanders: $5,700 vs. Tennessee (Road)

The Titans are notorious for giving up crazy points to a teams number two receiver. Mr. Sanders is here to save the day and it looks like Trevor Siemien will be back this week and Emmanuel is his favorite target, It all adds up to a big day for number 10.

Bonus:

Robby Anderson: $3,000 vs. San Francisco (Road)

Bryce Petty only throws to Anderson and the Niners pass defense sucks worse than getting a fruit cake for Christmas.

Tight End:

Zach Ertz: $4,900 vs. Washington (Home)

Ertz has been an absolute target monster over the last month averaging just over nine a game. It’s no secret the Redskins struggle covering the tight end and the Eagles should be throwing from behind in this one. 7 catches for 85 yards and a score for Mr. Skirts!

Coby Fleener: $3,700 vs. Tampa Bay (Road)

Josh Hill is out for the season with a broken leg and Fleener capitalized on his opportunity last week hauling in 5 passes for 85 yards. Tampa has allowed at least four receptions a game to Te’s over the last month so Fleener should be able to have a good day at a decent price.

Jason Witten: $3,100 vs. New York Giants (Road)

The Giants love to give up points to Tight Ends and Witten burnt them for 9 catches and 66 yards in week one. I expect more of the same but throw a touchdown in there, just for the hell of it.

Defense:

Minnesota: $3,900 vs. Jacksonville (Road)

Blake Bortles is a turnover machine.

Cincinnati: $3,500 vs. Cleveland (Road)

Rg3 might be starting in this one, doubt he finishes. Sacks up the wazoo!!

Atlanta: $3,100 vs. Los Angeles (Road)

As much as the Falcons are not a good defense on paper, I love this spot because the Rams are just not good at anything. Jeff Fisher extension, wow!
