Doug’s DraftKings player picks week 7

The Sunday main slate isn’t shaping up to be a great one as of Weds. morning. I’m using a heavy “stacking” strategy this week as I love The Chiefs, Buccaneers and some Titans this week. I see good value in those match ups and plan to exploit that. Ownership for players on those teams will be higher than normal and that’s ok with me as the chalk plays this week are fairly obvious. I do give you some other not so obvious plays this week as well! Should be an interesting week to say the least in the DFS world.

As a way to hold myself accountable to myself and you, the reader, I will provide a weekly recap of the previous weeks player picks. I find that accountability is important in this industry as too many writers, podcasters and “experts” throw things at a wall and see if they stick and are quick to tout their “wins” but never talk about the “losses” or “misses”. Both you and I know nobody is perfect at predicting what is going to happen week to week but I think some reflection is due when you whiff on a player or team pick for the week. I will break these down in three categories: Touchdowns are players that finished in the top 10 at their respective position or produced 5X their value, which I discussed in the week one article. First Downs are players that didn’t hurt you in your lineup and had average results based on cost. Punts are the players that I completely whiffed on and did not help you in any way, shape or form. They happen, it’s part of the game. If I did a bad job picking them I’m going to own up to it! With that said here are the results from week six:

Touchdowns:

Marcus Mariota, Lesean Mccoy, Cameron Meredith, Coby Fleener

First Downs:

Brian Hoyer, Jamaal Charles, Gio Bernard, Allen Hurns

Punts:

Ben Roethlisberger, Alex Smith, Carlos Hyde, Sammie Coates, Delanie Walker, Martellus Bennett, All defenses I picked.

Quarterback:

Alex Smith: $6,100 vs. New Orleans (Home)

I had Smith as a bonus play last week and that didn’t work out so well. A perfect “get right” game versus the Saints this week and I have faith Smith will bounce back. The Chiefs offense looked great on the ground last week and was up early so Smith wasn’t asked to do much against the Raiders. Facing the Saints there is always shootout potential and I think Smith passes more in this one. 250 yards passing, 40 yards rushing and two touchdowns this week for check down Alex.

Marcus Mariota: $6,000 vs. Indianapolis (Home)

Mariota’s nice run of soft opponents continues this week with a home tilt against Indy. The Colts defense is the wonder bread of the NFL this year. They allowed the Texans a late comeback win where they were down multiple scores and don’t strike fear into anybody. Mariota continues his hot streak and passes for multiple touchdowns for the third week in a row and adds over 50 yards on the ground. This duck if flying high!

Jameis Winston: $5,900 vs. San Francisco (Road)

The Buccaneers are coming off a bye and flying to San Fran for a juicy match up against a 49ers defense that just gave up 45 points to the Buffalo Bills. Vjax is done for the year and I actually think that’s a good thing for this offense. Vjax is TOAST! I like players that have two weeks to prepare for an opponent so fire up Jameis this week and expect 300 yards passing, two passing touchdowns and heck throw in a rushing TD for good measure!

Running Back:

Demarco Murray: $7,200 vs. Indianapolis (Home)

Lesean Mccoy was my chalk play of the week last week and paid off big and now Demarco looks to do the same. The Indy run defense got shredded by Lamar Miller last week and now faces another one of the best backs in the league. I think Murray’s stat line will be similar to that of Miller’s actually. 150 yards and two scores for the reborn Demarco!

Jacquizz Rodgers: $4,300 vs. San Francisco (Road)

I originally had Doug Martin in this slot but with the news of his setback it’s time for the Quizz show! He should see up to 30 touches again and has a dream match up on the road versus the 49ers. The top value play at RB (as of right now) expect ownership to be high. If Lesean Mccoy misses his game against Miami then you could flip over to Mike Gillislee at the minimum $3,000 cost.

Spencer Ware: $5,800 vs. New Orleans (Home)

I’m completely sold on Spencer Ware going forward. We discussed Ware on the newest episode of Trophy Time and I seem to be in the minority. Look, Charles is a great name and has been fantasy relevant for quite some time but Ware looks like the better player to me. Against New Orleans he should have another 100 yard from scrimmage game with a score with potential for more. Great price, great match up!

Bonus:

Tevin Coleman: $4,900 vs. San Diego (Home)

Mr. Coleman was quiet against Seattle last week but he’s looking to get woke against the Chargers at home. The Chargers defensive unit looked much improved against Denver last Thursday night but I’m still not afraid to insert Coleman into my lineups. He should get involved more in the passing game in this one and we all know what he can do on the goal line. Devonta Freeman is an attractive play as well but I believe Coleman’s ownership will be much lower so I lean in that direction.

Wide Receiver:

Mike Evans: $7,800 vs. San Francisco (Road)

I love Mike Evans. There, I said it. With the news of Vincent Jackson out for the season Evans target share should be the highest in the whole league. Without Jackson in games last year Evan saw four more targets and 15 more yards per game increases. Evans should be able to exploit the Niners for 125 yards and a score this week.

Jeremy Maclin: $6,700 vs. New Orleans (Home)

As a season long Maclin owner I really felt last week was the week Maclin gets it going but alas that was not the case. I’m giving him one last shot this week against the Saints. Alex Smith, Ware and Maclin stack gives you upside and leaves enough meat on the bone to spend up elsewhere if need be. Jeremy, I need you buddy!

Jamison Crowder: $4,300 vs. Detroit (Road)

The battle of two mediocre defenses should result in a healthy amount of points scored. I don’t believe Jordan Reed will suit up this week so the biggest bump goes to Crowder coming out of the slot where Detroit can be exposed. A 8-10 catch game isn’t out of the question and Crowder has a bit of a nose for the end zone so I really like him as a value play on Sunday.

Tight End:

Travis Kelce: $5,300 vs. New Orleans (Home)

Arguably one of the most frustrating players to own in all of fantasy, Kelce’s immense talent just hasn’t equated to consistent results. I like him as a part of the KC stack as he should be able to exploit the Saints defense at home. Only a GPP play for me as I don’t trust him enough for cash games. All you need is 50 yards and a score to be a top 10 Tight End this year. Woof.

Hunter Henry: $3,600 vs. Atlanta (Road)

I think Antonio Gates is all done, stick a fork in him! Henry has played great in the last three games and it looks like the future is now for the Chargers. In what should be a pass heavy game script for San Diego, Henry should see a fair share of targets and get to a 6/75/1 type of stat line against the Falcons fairly easily.

Cameron Brate: $2,900 vs. San Fracisco (Road)

Another Buccaneer! All aboard mateys! Outside of Evans, Brate is the other player that should benefit from an increase in targets and has been very good in the red zone. Winston looks his way often in those situations so he’s a great value play this week! Make America Brate Again!

Defense:

Philadelphia: $3,100 vs. Minnesota (Home)

Philly at home against a Vikings offense that doesn’t really scare anyone. Me likey.

New England: $2,900 vs. Pittsburgh (Road)

Landry Jones should be good for a couple of turnovers and I look for the Pats to dial up the pressure this week in a tough road game against a great rival.

Baltimore: $2,800 vs. New York Jets (Road)

The Ravens are playing back to back games in Met Life stadium. Just a weird fact and has no fantasy relevance at all, lol. Geno Smith is getting the start and the Jets look to score some points this week. I think they are held in check again so the Ravens are my play of the week defense!
