Week 14 Waiver Wire – Playoff Edition

By Josh Trotta

@TFFGurus

Welcome to the first playoff edition (majority of standard leagues) of our weekly waiver article of 2015! Those who are reading this are most likely in the dance and are looking for that one guy that puts their team over the edge. The waiver wire player that you ride to a championship! I know that is exactly what I am doing in my own fantasy league as I backed my way into the playoffs on a 4 game losing streak. I am need of that FA to put my team over the hump. Well let’s not delay any longer and let’s get right to the top waiver wire grabs of week 14! Best of luck to everyone who has their first playoff game this weekend and to those who’s regular season ends this week and you need a win to get in.

The playoff edition we are going to do things a little differently. On top of offering you 3 players at each position I will also provide 2 additional players that might be a little of a stretch but might not be on the radar of the rest of your league.

Quarterback

  1. Ryan Fitzpatrick – Fitzpatrick has been on fire over the past two games racking up 6 touchdown passes during that time and he faces a Tennessee Titans defense that has given up 25 over the course of the fantasy season. Great streaming option this week! J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!
  2. Tyrod Taylor – Taylor seems to finally be out of his mid season funk and over the last two games he has also thrown 6 touchdowns. Just like Fitzpatrick above him, Taylor faces a passing defense that has allowed the 2nd most passing touchdowns this year. Taylor provides you his best matchup of the season until week 17 this Sunday.
  3. Jameis Winston – Famous Jameis cemented himself as OROTY last week in my opinion and this week he gets a New Orleans defense that has been swiss cheese all season long. Jameis has been a solid fantasy starter all season long and he faces the worst passing defense in the league. Look for Winston to get his first 300 yard passing game of his career Sunday!

Additional

  1. Blaine Gabbert – Surprisingly effective since getting the starting job. Cleveland is next up on the Blaine Gabbert “see I was worth the 1st pick” tour.
  2. Ryan Tannehill – Tannehill was just awful last week in a slam dunk matchup and if your afraid of touching him because of that I completely understand. The Giants come to town this week and they have given up the most passing yards in the NFL. Not a bad play if your league is thin at the position.

Running Back

  1. James White – White once again shows his face on our waiver wire article for 2015. Seems like the Patriots are finally ready to just give him all the passing duties and he should see the field the rest of the way. A must have in any PPR league and should see enough snaps to make him worth the grab in standard as well. Houston on Monday night should see a lot of White.
  2. Darren Sproles – Sproles was brilliant in the beat down of my beloved Patriots Sunday afternoon contributing for a punt return touchdown, 15 attempts for 66 yards and added 34 more receiving yards. This late in the year it’s hard to find much value in the valley of running backs so tread lightly with Sproles. He loves to have big games and then do nothing and with Ryan Mathews returning soon from injury his role could decrease once again.
  3. Ameer Abdullah – Ameer is back in the starting job and before that end of game Hail Mary, the Lions needed to win every game and get some help to make the playoffs. The Lions have looked a lot better on offense since the OC change and Abdullah has looked better each week. St. Louis has been awful against the run lately and it could see a big game from the rookie.

Additional

  1. Chris Polk – Led the Texans in carries this past week and faces a NE defense that with out Hightower last week gave up 128 yards on the ground.
  2. Antonio Andrews / David Cobb – Both saw the field on Sunday and both were pretty effective. This week the Titans duo gets the tough run defense of the Jets.

Wide Receivers

  1. DeVante Parker – Even though Tannehill was awful against Baltimore, Parker made the most of his first start in the NFL to the tune of 63 yards and scored the 2nd touchdown of his career. That marks a touchdown in back to back games and this week the Giants come to south beach. The G-Men have given up 22 touchdowns on the season.
  2. Dorial Green-Beckham – “The Monster came out” Wright said to reporters of Green-Beckham after Sunday’s win over the Jags. I don’t have to tell you how much of a physical freak DGB is since he has been on this article before. DGB could be poised to be a factor down the playoff stretch and faces a Jets team that has been beaten through the air.
  3. Markus Wheaton – Wheaton scored again this past week marking two straight weeks he went off. The Steelers offense was clicking on all cylinders Sunday night and everyone of the receivers went off. The Steelers are in a dog fight for a wild card spot, so look for Wheaton to be the man the Steelers lean on as teams focus on Bryant and Brown down the stretch.

Additional

  1. Brian Hartline – Sneakily has become a PPR monster down the stretch.  Hartline hasn’t found the endzone since week 8 but could see double digit targets again.
  2. Tyler Lockett – The Seahawks are on fire right now and Wilson is making a serious push for MVP with his play lately. The once power running team has not turned into the NFC version of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tight Ends

  1. Richard Rodgers – Even before he caught the amazing Hail Mary on Thursday night, Rodgers was having his best game of the season. Rodgers destroyed a solid Lions defense to the tune of 146 yards and that one touchdown. Rodgers has another tough matchup this week against the Cowboys but with so little weapons that Aaron Rodgers can rely on, look for Richard Rodgers to get plenty of targets.
  2. Austin Seferian-Jenkins – Finally came back from the shoulder injury that had him out for 10 weeks, ASJ was sluggish on his way to only 31 yards on 6 targets. ASJ got to knock the rust off before a great matchup comes this Sunday as the Saints are just awful against everyone this year. ASJ could bounce back this weekend!
  3. Zach Miller – It’s Miller time! Now that Bennett has gone down with a season ending injury, the Bears will now turn to Zach Miller for their playoff push. Miller has become Cutler’s favorite weapon when Jeffrey and Bennett went down. That should allow Miller the ability to jump right in and take over right over. Great play for all Gronk owners for a playoff run until the Gronk comes back.

Additional

  1. Heath Miller – Millers best game of the season was in their first matchup against the Bengals. Not a bad play if he is able to suit up this week.
  2. Colby Fleener – Fleener has been a major disappointment this season and he has become a check down target. Fleener gets another great matchup in the AFC south this week. Not a bad play and maybe he finally finds the endzone.

Defense

  1. Detroit – The Rams offense has been downright awful as of late and the Lions are playing much better. They were able to turn over Rodgers on Thursday night and should be able to do the same when the high schooler they sign that night gets under center.
  2. San Fransisco – Manziel has been handed the keys to the Browns for the remainder of the season so you know what that means? Stream all defenses that play him the rest of the way! The 49ers are playing much better on both sides of the ball right now and should be able to make Manziel look well like Johnny Manziel.
  3. Washington – The Skins disappointed me last night as I hitched my wagon to them in multiple leagues. Look for them to rebound Sunday as they face a Bears team that just can’t help but throw interceptions.

Additional

  1. Colts – I know they just got blown out by like 100 points but trust me the Jags will give them opportunties to make plays. The Jags may be throw on the Colts as well but Bortles is far more likely to hand over a pick 6 then Big Ben was.
  2. Giants – They couldn’t stop my flag team from putting up 40 on them but the Giants do cause a lot of turnovers and Miami has been suspect on offense all season long. I am sure last nights result has the Giants revitalized since they lost but still find them selves tied for 1st place.

Kickers

  1. Matt Prater – Prater has been a beast the past 4 games and over the past 3 he has averaged double digits. Like I said above the Lions are playing much better on the offensive side of the ball and Prater has seen more work because of it. The Rams are a great matchup as well as the Saints, the Niners and the Bears to end out the season.
  2. Chris Boswell – The Steelers might have the best offense in the NFL and that always bodes well for the kicker of that team. Case in point Chris Boswell who has been a value in the fantasy world because of how good that offense has been. A big divisional matchup this Sunday could be a low scoring affair and the Steelers might rely on the kicker.
  3. Mike Nugent – Nugent is going to be on the other side of the ball in the AFC North matchup. Just like Boswell, Nugent will be called upon to keep close with the Steelers and should hit his projection.

Additional

  1. Connor Barth – With the Saints up next Barth should have plenty of opportunties to kick some FG’s.
  2. Dustin Hopkins – Missed an easy FG that might have cost the Redskins the game but with the Bears up next Hopkins should have a few opportunties to score some fantasy points.

Good luck this week! I want to wish each and everyone of you the best of luck as you are either begining a playoff run or looking to end the regular season on a winning streak.
